drive-by shooting
'I\vo people have been arrested and one
person remains in hospital with serious in-
juries following a drive-by shooting incident
in Hanover early Sunday morning that also
took several police services to a residence in
Wingham.
The Hanover police investigation of the
drive-by shooting in the area of 11th Avenue
in Hanover at 5 a.m., in which a male was
seriously injured and airlifted to London
Health Sciences Centre in serious condition,
later led police to a residence in the Scott
Street area of Wingham.
The OPP, OPP Criminal Investigation
Branch (CIB) under the direction of Detec-
tive Inspector Scott Naylor provided resourc-
es of the OPP Tactical and Rescue. Unit, the
emergency- Response Team and the Huron
OPP Crime Unit attended at the Wingham
residence since weapons were involved.
Police report there was no armed standoff
at the Wingham residence and seven indi-
viduals exited the residence and surrendered
to police without incident. Two individuals
were arrested in connection with the incident
but police said that charges had not been laid
as of noon Monday.
MAN FOUND DEAD
A Welland man, found unresponsive in
his cabin aboard the Algorail in. Goderich,
Wednesday, Nov. 18, was rushed to hospital
and later pronounced dead that same eve-
ning.
Police report that a 53 -year-old Welland
man, a crew member aboard the Algorail,
was found in his cabin and police and emer-
gency crews were called to the freighter at 6
p.m. Wednesday.
Despite efforts by paramedics and fire-
fighters to revive the man, he was rushed to
Alexandra Marine and General Hospital and
pronounced dead. Goderich firefighters re-
sponded to the call and assisted paramedics
in removing the man from the freighter.
The Algorail was in port Wednesday
to take on a load of salt and later cleared
harbour. The medium-sized Great . Lakes
freighter and bulk carrier is owned by Algo-
ma Central Corporation of Sault Ste. Marie,
Ontario. The freighter is a regular visitor to
Goderich Harbour for salt.
STOP LEADS TO ARRESTS
Two men have been charged after po-
lice found them carrying tools of an illegal
trade.
On Nov. 21, just after midnight, a Huron
OPP officer stopped a slow moving van on
McDonald Line north of Cranbrook Road to
check the sobriety of the' driver.
There were two males in the van along
with an ATV. Upon investigation, a quantity
of tools was also located in the van. Based
on the type of tools and the circumstances of
the situation, both male occupants were ar-
rested for Possession of Break In tools. The
ATV and van were seized pending identifi-
cation of the proper owners.
A 23 -year-old Goderich man and 39 -year-
old Central Huron man are each facing one
count of Breach Probation and one count of
Possession of Break In Tools. They will both
answer to their charges in Goderich Court on
Feb. 1, 2010.
