Sykes signal -star publisher The Cape Breton family that made fiddle music trendy and became the quintessential Canadian Celtic sound, the Rankin sisters, will per- form in Goderich Friday, Dec. 4. One of the most famous Canadian musical families, the Rankins, have created musical memories across the country and for many fans, the most memorable aspect of their perfor- mance was the exquisite three-part harmonies of the sisters. On Dec. 4 at North Street United Church, patrons will be afforded the unique opportunity to hear the trio of Ray- lene, Heather and Cookie Rankin at a live tour performance, A Maritime Christmas. Sponsored by the Parkhouse, pro- ceeds from the one-night concert will help support cost of improvements to The Livery theatre on South Street. The conceit, which builds on the success of the town's famed Celtic Roots Festival and recent Bluesfest held at The Livery, serves to illus- trate that local patrons will support top-flight entertainment. "I believe there is an appetite for good entertainment in Goderich and there has 'been great support for the Celtic Festival and most recently, Bluesfest," Herb Marshall of the Parkhouse said. "People deserve the arts here in Goderich but it becomes a question of economics and to bring in good entertainment requires a substan- tial budget. Ticket sales for the Rankins proves that people will support such entertainment and North Street United Church, which seats 500, is a beautiful venue," Tickets for the concert are offered at $30, a bargain considering that they sell for $45 and up in other locations on the sisters' latest tour. People in the area will definitely support good entertainment, Mar- shall claims, adding that the town requires the proper facilities to host such events. "If you bring in the right entertain- ment, people will come and it will bring more acts to town," he said.
