ROMA 155 ANGLESEA ST. 519-524-8382 Mon. -Fri. 7:30 am -5:30 pm Saturday 8 am -5:00 pm Parade, tree lighting highlight weekend events Danny Scott signal -star staff Goderich's Santa Claus Parade was the crown jewel of holiday celebrations over the weekend, filling every inch of roadside -space with spectators as more than 66 floats made their way around The Square Saturday night. "It went very well, and we couldn't complain about the weather," Wanda Keith, festival and special events co- ordinator said. The parade was one of several events that happened over the weekend, each one more successful than the previous, according to Keith, starting with the lighting of the Alzheimer's, Angel, and MADD Trees on Friday evening. "We had the biggest crowd yet at the tree lighting ceremonies," she explained. "A bit of it had to do with weather, but it was very rewarding for the people involved to see all the peo- ple who have had their lives touched by these issues come out and remember." Saturday evening drew a 'huge crowd,' according to Keith, and even the people jostling for prime -parade - viewing real-estate , took time to turn around and enjoy the seasonal music of the Goderich Laketown Band that pre- ceded the parade. The parade lasted about an hour and was one of the best in memory, accord- ing to Keith. "We were very pleased with how many businesses and individuals really worked on using the Victorian Christ - mas theme. It was evident on quite a few floats," she said. Ketih said that a lot of the thanks for the evening need to go to the Goder- ich Parks Department, who set up the Christmas lights, and decorated one of their vehicles to be in the parade. "There were a lot of people who stayed after, looking at the decorations and lights, and just enjoying the sea- son," she said. As for the youngsters, Claus con- noisseurs Nevaeh Goddard, Seth Dun- can, and Madeline Hill agreed that their favourite part of the show was the big man himself. "[My favourite part; was when Santa drove by and waved at me," Goddard said. Nine-year-old Natalie Hill enjoyed the firetruck and the Huron County Crimestoppers float, while 12 -year-old Ryan liked the fancy police car that led the charge. Mayor Deb Shewfelt said that the pa- rade was a memorable one. "It's one of the best I've seen in many years," he said. "And the weather lends itself to that." Shewfelt also extended thanks to all the participants in the parade, especially those who had to travel to be here. Keith thanked Tim Hortons as well, who donated the hot chocolate that was provided at the beginning of both the Friday and Saturday night events.
