During an 8 -week period in
the summer of 2009, youth from
across the County participated in
Engaging Huron's Youth in Arts
and Culture's visual arts series
to create a 12 -panel mural that
collectively represents the artis-
tic expression of the youth in our
County.
The mural was exhibited at the
Blyth Festival for the month of
August and has now made its
way to Huron County Library
branches across the County in-
cluding: Goderich, Seaforth,
Brussels and Exeter. Pieces from
the mural pieces will be on dis-
play at these locations until early
January 2010 and then will move
on to other municipal buildings
or be returned to the artists.
The mural was created un-
der the mentorship of two local
visual arts professionals from
Goderich, Natalie Hussey and
Linda Wiebe, Youth aged 13 — 20
from Goderich, Blyth, Bayfield,
Wingham-area and Seaforth par-
ticipated in the project.
Engaging Huron's Youth in
Arts and Culture is a project
consisting of youth -driven work-
shops focusing on three arts dis-
ciplines: visual arts, music and
film. The music series saw the
completion of a compellation
CD of seven original songs and a
Music Festival in Harbour Park,
Goderich. The film workshop is
currently underway with plans to
screen an original film written,
directed and starring local youth
in January.
The second phase of the proj-
ect will encourage youth to en-
gage in a Youth Arts Council that
would take on the role of devel-
oping a large scale arts project
and in future would continue of-
fering arts projects and exhibits
that are inspired by and conduct-
ed by area youth.
