A very IODE Christmas
The LODE Home Tour once again gave people the chance to tour
some of the most unique homes in Goderich, as well as see what
the foremost interior designers in Huron County were doing for
Christmas. Above, Marylo Graham's sprawling Cobourg Street
home provided the perfect backdrop for a holiday home tour.
Decorations were provided by Karie-Sue MacLean Floral Design
Studio and Home & Company of Exeter. See page 22 for more.
Harbour, Parsons Court
top town list of priorities

Goderich Town Council faced some
tough decisions Tuesday, November
10, as they set their priority projects for
the year to come.
The special meeting was held to up-
date the progress of last year's priority
list, as well as move items up or down
accordingly. A majority of the items re-
quire three -parts funding from all levels
of government.
Clerk -administrator Larry McCabe
painted a harrowing picture of the true
cost of projects without senior govern-
ment support.
"Every one per cent of our tax ratio is
$60,000," he cautioned. "Think about
that when you decide what you want
to do."
HARBOUR'
Meanwhile, harbour infilling re-
mains a top priority of the town. The
estimated $48 -million project would
create about 15 acres of land in God-
erich Harbour, and would require mas-
sive cash infusions from senior levels
of government.
The project was turned down for the
first intake of the Build Canada initia-
tive, however the second intake - the
major infrastructure component - is still
outstanding.
According to council, Sifto has al-
ready expressed an interest in the land,
once created, however, it is not only
Goderich that would benefit from the
expansion.
The Huron County Federation of
Agriculture and Huron County manu-
facturers would also gain significantly
with the increased ability to ship prod-
uct both domestically and abroad.
PARSONS COURT
Once again, Parsons Court was the
cause of some debate around the coun-
cil table, as property along the town's
southern edge quickly sells to small
businesses.
A road extension and service hook-
ups are slated to take be done in the
area, but one councillor was wondering
if the work was premature.
Councillor Heather Lyons asked
what the rush was, considering the Vol-
vo property is also up for sale.
Given the size of businesses moving
into Parsons Court, administration said
there is not the demand for large-scale
manufacturing facilities in town and
that business owners want a clean slate
to build on.
Town Hall has been forwarding any
inquiries for large industrial lots to
Volvo, and McCabe said the number of
referrals was around six since the prop-
erty went on the market.
YMCA
Repayment of the Maitland Recre-
ation Centre will soon be complete, and
the last payment is slated for 2011.
Staff from the YMCA were on -hand
Nov. 10 to ask council for a $400,000
annual contribution following the re-
tirement of the building debt for upkeep
and replacement f equipment.
Councillor John Grace asked whether
