Gallery features multi -media Guelph artist Vincent Moskowec
One man's junk is another man's
treasure, a mantra that definitely ap-
plies to the Goderich Co-op Gallery
guest artist, for November, Vincent
Moskowec.
This Guelph native, a special ef-
fects technician, scenic artist, sculp-
tor, painter and ceramicist, this •multi-
talented artist/recycler has his work
spanning North America and Europe.
Vince's large thought-provoking can-
vases protrude' with childhood mem-
orabilia and feature collaged back-
grounds of household items.
Vince explains, "The found object
plays an important role in my work.
They become the center of attention
in the finished work because the ideas
that they inspire inform all the other el-
ements of the work. When I walk into
a pawnshop, I'm like a kid in as candy
store. All of the items I find there have
a past - a story to tell. "
He feels this is where memories are
left to rot. He tries to relate to his ideas
with the objects obtained from these
stores. The inspiration he gets from an
object(s) fuel new insights and a new
story or idea will begin to develop.
"Pop art subject matter" Vince
claims, inspires him and the use of pre-
fabricated moulds, "because they also
evocate nostalgia as well as having a
manufactured, kitsch appeal."
Vince feels the challenge is the pair-
ing • and combining these different
found or slip -cast objects together.
Belonging together conceptually may
or may not occur. The juxtaposition
of the slip cast objects and hand made
elements can express a visual pun, a
social or political commentary or per-
sonal outlook on life. In the unique
pieces Vince has chosen to exhibit, this
month, there's a little something for the
birder, the seamstress, the Monarchist,
and the amusement park enthusiast.
As well as our guest Vince Moskowec,
the GCG is please to welcome back
