Area family to host second arthritis fundraiser

Well over 100 pairs of shoes completed the
scenic circuit laid out by the Crawford family
near Homesville in September when the fam-
ily hosted a pig roast and hike in support of
the Arthritis Society's Joints In Motion proj-
ect.
Another hundred or so sat down for dinner
at the event, tallying up more than $11,000
for the Crawford's fundraising initiative, now
with a total of more than $30,000. But that
was just the kick-off for the family of six, who
resolve to raise a whopping $50,000 in order
to take part in Decembers half -marathon in
Barbados.
Next month, Joan Crawford and her crew
are hosting another event which she hopes
will bring them even closer to their goal.
On Nov. 14, Joan will put. on a vintage
fashion show, Fahion with a Flare, at The
Pyramid Centre in St. Mary's. The show, Joan
said, will feature a variety of pieces from her
sister Marion Kernighan's private collection

ranging from 1860s frocks up to threads from
the 1970s.
"This show will be a little different, we've
added a few pieces that don't normally show,"
Joan said, "and it's all set to music, song and
dance."
It all takes place at 317 James St. in St.
Mary's, little more than an hour drive from
Goderich. Tickets are priced at $25 each, and
can be obtained by contacting Joan at 519-
482-3249. There are two showings on Satur-
day, at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Currently, Joan said she is looking into
chartering a bus from either Goderich or Clin-
ton if there is enough interest.
In anticipation of the latest fundraising
event hosted by the Crawford family, Joan
said she was "blown away" by the support of
her community at the pig roast and hike.
"The community support was fantastic,"
she said. "I didn't realize I knew so many
people."
