The Goderich Pirates turned around a four -
game losing streak with a 5-4 win over the
Milverton Four -Wheel Drives October 30.
The Pirates came out of the gate strong,
scoring four goals before Milverton even
made it to the board.
The first period saw a power -play goal
scored by Matt MacPhee, assisted by Dave
Meriam and Kyle Hamilton, as well as a
goal scored by James Gartshore, assisted by
MacPhee and Scott Jamieson.
Second period action saw two more pow-
er -play goals for the pirates, one scored by
Sean Burton, and another from MacPhee.
Scott Austin also put in an even strength goal
to bring the Pirates' total to five. Assists were
netted by Meriam (2), Jamieson, Hamilton,
and Burton.
Milverton was not about to go down quiet-
ly, however, as the Pirates faced a team with
renewed vigor during the third.
The Pirates entered the last period up 5-1,
but two power -play goals and one even -
strength goal were almost enough to force an
overtime.
The Pirates have a big weekend ahead, ac -

The Goderich District Collegiate Insti-
tute junior girls basketball team is enjoy-
ing a stellar season on the court this year,
sitting second place behind juggernaut St.
Mike's of Stratford.
The Vikings suffered their only loss of
the season last week at the hands of the
Warriors, keeping it close at 32-36.
Jayme Austin downed 11 points for the
Vikings in the effort, with Hayley Bowler -
Cooke netting seven.
The Vikings started slow in the first
half, being outscored 23-13 after the sec-
ond quarter. The girls rebounded in the
third quarter, though the clock ran out on
a Viking comeback, with the juniors net-
ting 19 points to St. Mike's 13.
The Vikings also took on St. Marys' ju-
nior team, walking away with a 42-26 win.
Bowler -Cooke led the scoresheet with 15,
followed by Lauren Dietrich with eight.
St. Mike's is undefeated heading into
playoffs, while Central Huron has yet to
win a game.
St. Anne's is tied for third with Strat-
ford Central syith six wins, four losses in
junior play.
Meanwhile, there was no contest in . the
senior girls' October 28 matchup against
St. Mike's.
The Vikes barely made a notch on the
scoresheet, with just 10 points to show
after four quarters of hard -played bas-
ketball. St. Mike's dominated the match,
55-10.
Moniek Geene racked up half the points
for the Vikings. •
The senior Vikes are sitting middle -of -
the -pack right now with 10 points for the
season.
F.E. Madill is at 12 points while Strat-
ford Central continues to dominate the
league at 18 points. Both Stratford North-
western and St. Mike's share second place
with 14 points.
Meanwhile, the Eagles have four points
for the season, with narrow wins against
Mitchell (38-34) and Listowell (50-49).
Playoffs begin today, November 4, with
quarterfinal action between the senior
Vikes and F.E. Madill in Wingham. The
Juniors head straight to the semis, playing
the winner of Stratford Central and North-
western Nov. 9.
cording to general manager Trevor Bazinet.
"We've got two road games versus Monk -
ton and Thedford," he said.
It will be the first time that the Pirates have
faced off versus Monkton this year, and the
second against Thedford, having narrowly
lost to the DirtyDogs 8-6 in October.
The following week the Pirates will return
home with a game against the Lucan-llder-
ton Jets on November 13 at the Maitland Rec
Centre.
