Clinton pharmacy
burglarized Friday
On October 23 at approxi-
mately 11:30 p.m. Huron OPP
officers were dispatched to an
alarm call at the Clinton Phar-
macy. Upon arrival police were
met by the keyholder who updat-
ed officers that there was a hole
in the rear door of the building
and they had heard a loud whis-
tle when they pulled on scene.
When police opened the door to
the pharmacy, they immediately
heard a loud crash from someone
fleeing out the back of the build-
ing. Officers gave chase and were
updated by the keyholder that a
male was running towards the
centre of town. Police followed
to an Albert Street apartment
complex. The suspect threw
away his backpack and it was
retrieved. The male was then ob-
served on a roof but when police
finally gained access to the roof,
the suspect was no longer there.
There was a lone apartment that
faced onto the roof and officers
made contact with the occupant.
After gaining consent to search
the apartment, officers located
the suspect inside. He was ar-
rested on scene. The backpack
was confirmed to contain several
bottles of narcotics. The iden-
tity of the suspect was confirmed
through video surveillance.
An 18 -year-old Clinton male
remains in custody pending a
bail hearing in Goderich Court
on October 26, 2009. He is fac-
ing one count of Break and Enter
and one count of Breach Proba-
tion.
DASHWOOD INDUSTRIES
LIMITED FINED $65,000
Ai i ER WORKER INJURED
Dashwood Industries Limited,
a window and door manufactur-
er, was fined $65,000 on October
19, 2009, for a violation of the
Occupational Health and Safety
Act (OHSA) after a worker was
injured.
On September 15, 2008, a
worker at Dashwood's facility
in Centralia was dismantling the
roof of a sound enclosure. The
sound enclosure had been used
to mute the sound from a line of
milling machines that were no
longer in use. The worker, on the
roof of the enclosure, unhooked
from the lifeline and moved to an
access ladder to get down. The
worker stepped on a plywood
plank in front of the access lad-
der, and the plywood, which was
not secured in place, slipped off
the roof The worker fell about
four metres to the ground below,
sustaining wrist and head inju-
ries.
Dashwood Industries Limited
pleaded guilty under the OHSA
to failing as an employer to en-
sure that the plywood covering
was secured in place.
The fine was imposed by Jus-
tice of the Peace Robert Gay.
In addition to• the fine, the court
imposed a 25 per cent victim
fine surcharge, as required by the
Provincial Offences Act. The
surcharge is credited to a special
provincial government fund to
assist victirns of crime.
