The first wave of the much
talked -about H1N1 vaccine be-
came available to Goderich and
Huron Country residents on Mon-
day, during the first of more than
20 priority clinics taking place
throughout the next six weeks.
A steady line streamed into
the Jacob Memorial Building in
Clinton Monday as many waited
to roll -up their sleeve to become
some of the first Huron residents
to receive the H1N1 inoculation
released last week. It was the first
wave of vaccinations to become
available to the priority groups
outlined by the Public Health
Agency of Canada last month.
Residents aged six to 64 with
a chronic medical condition, like
diabetes, heart or lung disease,
children aged four to six, some
pregnant women and caregivers
of a resident with an identified
condition now have the oppor-
tunity to receive the shot to help
ward -off the new strain of influ-
enza. Once referred to as swine
flu, the H1N1 is a new influenza
virus first

Shot in the arm
Public health nurse Anne Haley was one of many giving fly shots
to seniors at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 109 last
Wednesday. The shots were for the seasonal flu, however H1N1
shots are now available for target age groups in Huron County.

Young girl
shot with
air gun
Two 12 year-old Goderich boys
are facing numerous charges, in-
cluding Assault with a Weapon, af-
ter an 11 -year-old girl was shot sev-
eral times with an air gun Sunday.
Shortly after 5 p.m., Huron OPP
responded to a report that a young
girl had been shot several times with
a compressed air firearm. Upon in-
vestigation, police determined that
two 12 -year-old boys had been
playing with some kids their age
when one of the two boys pulled
out two air guns from his backpack.
The two boys then began shooting
at the victim at close range hitting
her more than 20 times. Two other
girls were also shot at by the boys.
Some of the contact points from the
plastic pellets broke the skin and
left welts.
Both boys were later located at
their homes, and the air guns were
seized for public safety and evi-
dence. One boy is now facing one
count of Assault with a Weapon and
one count of Discharge Air Gun
with Intent. He will answer these
serious charges in Goderich Youth
Court on January 14, 2010. The
second 12 -year-old Goderich male
is facing three counts of Assault
with a Weapon and three counts
of Discharge Air Gun with Intent.
He will also answer to his charges
on January 14, 2010 in Goderich.
