Youth group
goes homeless
A group of teenagers from Huron -Perth
will be experiencing homelessness in
Goderich this weekend as part of a United
Church youth retreat program.
This Saturday, teens will have an out-
door experience in cardboard shelters be-
hind North Street United Church in a pro-
gram that will approximate the plight and
living conditions of the homeless.
"We call the project `Sleeping in the
Streets' and the youth had the idea to go
ahead with this project," Pastor Gwen
Nicol Macdonald of North Street United
Church said. "They will be outdoors on
Friday from 7 p.m. to 1 p.m Saturday.
They will walk around town Friday eve-
ning to search out cardboard and other
items for their overnight stay. The kids are
really jazzed about this project."
The youth will be on the streets of God-
erich Friday evening looking for warm
places to put in time and they will also be
scavenging for materials to build shelters
that will become their home for the night.
The retreat has been organized by youth
and leaders from Huron -Perth Presbytery
of the United Church of Canada.
