"We can' still help people and Kar- in will assist in any way she can," he said. "Support services are available and there is some work available so we can help people along their next career path." Currently, there are 140 people still working at Volvo's Maitland Road fa- cility and satellite locations- around the town's industrial park. Many produc- tion employees have been involved in the dismantling and moving equipment and materials that is destined for other Volvo manufacturing sites or prepare equipment that has been purchased through auction for transport to other locations. The company is in the process of dismantling and disposing of equipment, in- cluding parts and machinery, some of which is des- tined for a . plant in Asheville, NC while some parts and machines will make their way to Shippensburg, Pa. and the grader manufacturing fa- cility in Brazil There is a big push on in the next month to transfer equipment to Vol- vo sites and make _ 1 ► 30 The Square -• GODERICH 524-7811 tiELD OVER Fri & Sat 6:45 & 9:15 Sun - Thur 8:00 Ztltttaer( Mature/ Theme SsiO 1 Y R L Lanau.gt M.y Calrend L 'a-✓jy 6 Y Oct. 16-22 A comedy about a vacation in paradise they'll never forget VINCE VAUGHN COUPLES RETREAT Fri & Sat 6:45 & 9:15 Suri- Thurs 8:00 BRUCEL . "Some of the equipment has been transferred to Volvo sites and other equipment, at the end of its life, was auctioned off but the good, usable equipment will stay within Volvo," Ball said. "Non-strategic equipment such as laser -burning and cutting ma- chines won't be used in Pennsylvania and was sold." The company held a successful parts and equipment auction and Ball said that many local companies were in- volved in the purchase of machines and parts. Employees will now work towards getting all the parts and -equip- ment out of the building on Maitland Road by the end of the year. Ball esti- mated that approximately 70 employ- ees will continue to work until that time. Going into 2010, the company will still employ about 70 people, mainly in the design -engineering group, to finish development of the grader prod- uct line. Those 70 employees will work into July of next year. The company's seven industrial properties are now up for sale and mar- keting initiatives have been active and generated positive leads Ball said. The smaller buildings in the industrial park represent the most saleable items, he said, adding that there is interest from existing businesses and local concerns which could lead to some positive business and manufacturing activity and job creation. "Some local businesses are looking to expand or relocate and there is great opportunity to acquire building space right now," he said. "There's been good interest and activity and there could be new jobs." Sale of the Maitland Road 238,500 square -foot facility will not come as easily and the asking price is $2.8 mil- lion. The company's four buildings in the industrial park are selling for be- tween $500,000 for the former Gearco building to $1.2 million for the parts and distribution centre. Parcels of land on Cypress and Maple Street are also listed for sale.
