As each athletic season ends, we are given the chance to celebrate the annual successes of our student athletes. Our drama and mu- sic students return from their concerts and competitions bringing with them accolades and awards for the rest of the school to rec- ognize and honor. There are two celebrations coming on Fri- day, October 9 that we really look forward to. At 9 a.m. in the west gym, the staff and students of GDCI will gather to celebrate the top academic achievements of current students who were in last year's Grades 9 - 12 classes. Each course's top achievers will be recognized and presented with awards as they cross the stage. All of us really enjoy being able to provide these students with the type of recognition that their hard work deserves. Whereas it will be the morning of a school day, we encourage the parents of the recipients to attend so that they can share in the celebration. Students who will be receiving awards will know by Thurs- day. On Friday evening, it will be time to lift Principal's Corner the curtain on the 2009 GDCI Commence- ment ceremony. This is our chance to be- stow upon our most recent graduates the honours, awards, and attention that their achievements deserve. The staff and current students look forward to the return of our graduates ,bo that we can find out how their post-GDCI lives are unfolding. We will have about 130 graduating students in atten- dance this year and I hope that each will be able to bring a good collection of family members to share in the celebration. The curtain rises on the celebration at 8 p.m. in the west gym. The doors open soon af- ter 7 p.m. and while you're here, take the time to tour the halls. MUSSO Appraisals & Consulting Inc. You'll see some significant changes in the front foyer and C -hall areas. I'll close by reiterating a message 1 gave a couple of weeks ago. The Ministry of Education mandates that each school in Ontario will have a School Advisory Coun- cil (SAC), sometimes known as the Parent Council. It is very common for parents to re- duce their involvement in their kids' school lives as they get into secondary schools, but I would encourage all of you with chil- dren attending GDCI to get involved with our SAC. This is an exciting time to be in- volved in the Goderich education commu- nity and the people who have been around the table in recent years have done won- derful work. However, most have left the group since their children have graduated, so there is a need for new faces and new"en- ergies to join us. The next meeting will be a Regional one, with SAC groups from the local elementary schools meeting together to enjoy collaborative meetings and a won- derful guest speaker on Tuesday, Oct. 20. That will also be the date of the GDCI Par- ent Interview Night, so many of you would be here anyway. Why not sit in on the SAC meeting at 6 p.m. to see how it feels. I hope I'll see you here! Photo by Denny Scott Grand re -opening Mac's Gas and Convenience celebrated their grand re -opening after extensive renovations to the interior of the store, and a switch over to their own brand of gasoline. Renovations, which took approximately two and a half to three weeks, included a complete make -over for the store. Mac's marketing manager George Buttigig said that the change -over came as the lease on the property was up for renewal.
