Dance pro Patty Wegg shakes her
stuff at the first annual Dancing
with the Stars event, October 3.
the event was great as well.
"Everyone said that everyone
was really dressed well, and it was
a very elegant dining opportunity,"
she said. "People also told me that
the evening flowed well, it was well
organized." It was a very polished
event, with a good balance of fun
and competition, she added.
The second place team was
professional dancer Ian Johnson,
$14,000
paired with Alma Conn, a North
Huron Township Councillor.
Third place honours were taken
by Bob Morris, professional dancer
and Crown Attorney for Goderich,
and Rachel Lynn, who is in charge
of volunteer services for Victim
Services of Huron.
There were more than 40 items
in the silent auction, and the mon-
ey raised through the event will
support victims of crime and tragic
circumstances in Huron County.
The night went so well that Do-
rey says they are planning on mak-
ing it a yearly event.
"We think we're looking at doing
it again next year," she said. "Many
people talked about being sponsors
next year, and the dancers showed
a definite interest in a repeat per-
formance."
Dorey said that anyone interested
in either being a supporter of the
event, or any celebrities that wish
to dance, can contact her through
Victim Service's website at www.
victimservices.cc.
Thanks were given to all involved.
with special thanks going out to Jan
Vogel, the co-chair of Victim Ser-

lent auction, and Brenda Shelton for

Radiothon gears up for eighth
annual drive for health care
signal -star staff
This year, they're going for $900,000.
The CKNX Healthcare Heroes Radiothon
is reeling up for its eighth annual turn at rid-
ing the fundraising airwaves on behalf of 15
area hospital foundations. The 2009" Radio-
thon is set to take place on Oct. 17.
In 2008, They set their sights on a million,
and brought in a collective $935,000 for the
participating foundations, slightly more than
the $930,000 raised in 2007.
"Last year we almost made a million," said
central committee vice -chair and AMGH
Foundation executive director Heather
Glenister. "It would be great to do it this
time!"
This year, AMGH has targeted its latest
hospital foundation capital campaign to ben-
efit from their cut of Radiothon proceeds.
AMGHs $50,000 Radiothon goal will go
directly towards the Keeping Abreast digital
mammography capital chmpaign 'recently
unveiled by the hospital foundation.
Over the last seven years, more than $4.6
million has been raised for the 15 Midwest-
ern Ontario hospital foundations. For Goder-
ich, and AMGH specifically, that has meant
more than $260,000 that has gone towards
projects within the facility, as well as the CT
Scanner for Huron County campaign.
Glenister, who has worked closely with
the Radiothon initiative for a number of
years, said the experience has been a reward-
ing one, though slightly busy at times.
"I've been a part of the Radiothon for a
long time. Seeing it progress and grow as an
event, as well as the cooperation between the
foundations has been tremendously reward-
ing," she said. "It's not just about the money
now. The foundations are becoming, I think,
one big healthcare family because of what
we've accomplished together. It's exciting to
see what could come of that."
The one -day event features a call-in do-
nation program that goes live -to -air Oct.
17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Donations can be
made to benefit specific hospital foundation
projects or the event as a whole by phoning
