In Memoriam.
DOAK
In loving memory of the late Paul David Doak,
who passed away October 5, 2007, father,
husband, son and brother.
God saw you were tired,
And a cure was not to be,
So He put His arms around you,
And whispered, "Come to Me".
A great heart stopped beating,
And God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.
Sadly missed by wife Brenda, daughter
Khristine, mother Edna and all the Doak
families and the Diehl families. -40x
MCNAUGHTON
In memory of Kirk McNaughton, October 3,
2007, friend, husband, father.
Since you have been gone,
Nothing is the same,
All 1 have are memories,
And your picture in a frame.
And in this time of sorrow,
1 look to tomorrow,
We are not apart,
You will always be in my heart.
Love Marion. -40x

In loving memory of a dear mother and
grandmother, Helen Armstrong, who passed
away seven years ago, September 29, 2002.
A wonderful Mother gone to rest,

Her love was true, her heart was kind,
A better Mother none could find.
Dear Mom, you did not go away,
You walk beside us every day.
.Lovingly remembered and deeply missed by
Julie, Sylvain, Kody and Dustin, -40x
MERIAM
In loving memory of Ashley Patrice Meriam,
who left us October 5, 2001.
Emptiness should be my song,
In the eight years, since you've been gone.
Without you here, the days are so long,
The nights an endless sea of black,
Oh how 1 wish you could come back.
Your Kayla is so much like you,
Her smile, her eyes, her attitude,
1 know you watch her firm above,
With heavy heart 1 share your love.
1'11 keep her safe, both day and night,
71111 again, can hold you tight.
Forever in our hearts, Mom, Dad, Kayla,
Crystal, David and Becky. -40x

Thi Port to host an evening
of entertainment Oct. 23
Our life ring has been returned! A
good samaritan found it in Kinloss Twp.,
and gave it to ACW Councillor Marilyn
Miltenburg, who then gave it to road
superintendent Brian VanOsch who re-
turned it to its proper place at the beach.
Thank you to all involved, you may have
saved a life.
We have had a very busy summer in the
Port with many fundraising events for
our upcoming Rev'n in '11 celebration.
Thank you to the countless people who
helped out and to those who attended the
events. Special thanks to Joe and staff
at the General Store. While providing a
vital service to this community, Joe has
also played a huge role in the success of
this summer's events, selling hundreds
of tickets and t -shit ts, providing grocer-
ies at cost, not to mention being the lo-
cal information centre.
Many thanks also to Christ Church
for providing a much-needed venue for
some of this summer's events including
a very successful Corn Roast and Silent
Auction held on Labour Day Weekend.
Close to 300 people attended this event
thanks to the efforts of Tom and Carol
Arthur and their team of helpers.
Port Albert is slowly working towards
its goal of raising funds for the 175th
celebration to be held in 2011. The ul-
timate purpose of the celebration is to
raise enough money in 2011 to make
a positive impact on the community in
general, but most importantly to provide
recreational facilities for the young peo-
ple in our area. At our 150th year celebra-
tion in 1986, enough funds were raised
PortA/bert news
to do various upkeep and improvements
in our village. The Port Albert and Area
Recreational Society Inc. was formed in
1987 and administered the money over
the last 23 years. The Rev'n in '11 com-
mittee is a part of the Recreational So-
ciety and the funds left over from the
1986 celebration have provided us with
some seed money to get things rolling
for 2011, but much more is needed.
The next fundraising event is one that
the Rev'n in '11 committee is very ex-
cited about. It will be held at Saltford
Valley Hall, Oct. 23, from 8 p.m. to 1
a.m. The evening will start with appetiz-
ers being served and entertainment pro-
vided by local artists. At 9 p.m. the multi
talented Cliff Erickson from Port Huron
will entertain with songs, jokes and sto-
ries. The evening will end with local
musicians Benson Brown, Bud Mabon,
Jenna Ujiye, Ashley Anderson, Sarah
Koopmans and Jamie Wallace. Tickets
are $25 each and can be purchased at
the Port Albert Store, Dauphin Feed and
Supply Ltd., West Wawanosh Mutual
Ins. Co. in Dungannon, Sears Goderich
and Shear Design in Lucknow. It is sug-
gested that you get your tickets early so
as not to miss out on what promises to
be a fun evening.
County 4-H'ers to celebrate mentor
The 4-H Club is a valuable program
for youth aged 10-21. Huron County
has seen an increase in membership
and leadership over the past couple of
years, and one of the persons respon-
sible for its success in our county is
Florence Pullen.
Florence would not take credit for
any of it but those who have worked
with her, know that she is one of 4 -H's
biggest promoters.
She was nominated for and chosen
as one of six recipients of the Syngen-
ta 4-H Ontario Arbor Award. This past
February, she was recognized at a cer-
emony in Waterloo. Now, she will be
recognized here in Huron County.
On Sunday, October 4 at the Sea -
forth Agriplex at 4 p.m., she will be
honoured with a tree planting on the
grounds of the Agriplex.
Three nominations were submitted
to the Arbor Award Committee. Here
is an excerpt from one of the,nomina-
tions: "Florence Pullen has been a 4-H
leader and volunteer so long that no
one seems to know exactly how long
... She has just always been here."
Twenty-nine years is the exact num-
ber. - She is a recognizable figure at
4-H events and on the Huron County
4-H Leaders' Association. The Hu-
ron County Judging Competition has
thrived because of her organizational
skills and leadership. Many 'Go For
The Gold' teams have done well at the
local, regional and provincial competi-
tions because of her coaching and pro-
motion of the event. Her sheep clubs
continue to grow every year, with more
new members. Children of former
members are now enjoying 4-H under
her tutelage.
The Huron County 4-H Leaders' As-
sociation would like to take this oppor-
tunity to invite you to attend Florence's
Tree Planting Ceremony at 4 p.m. Af-
terward, stay for our Fundraising Din-
ner from 5-7 p.m. It will be held at the
Seaforth Agriplex in Seaforth on Sun-
day, Oct. 4.
