Goderich's own Darryl McMillen went
all the way in five rounds to take the
Quick 32 Sportsman Series race in Ca-
yuga, Sept 18-20.
McMillen was behind the wheel of his
Top .Sportsman 1963 Chevrolet Covette
for the double; header weekend.
He started out on the track against`I'ony
Positano and his Mike Bos Stefko racing
engine -powered Top Dragster at Toronto
Motorsports Park in Cayuga before head-
ing on to the final, where he won a $3,000
purse.
The' Top Sportsman final was be-
tween McMillen's TTK Transport, Lucas
Freight Management, TPI Enterprizes,
Huron Tire entry and Kevin Wicke's
K&K Team of Stratford, Ontario.
"It feels wonderful to win one of these
Quick 32 Sportsman Series deals, there
are great teams and super good compe-
tition," said McMillen. "I very proud of
my crew, Perry Wood, Carol McMillen,
Ted Lucas and -Richard Butler they are a
big part of this accomplishment." -
Ealier in the season, another\Goderich
racer, Wayne Allin, took home a $1,000
purse at the International Hot Rod Asso-
ciation (IHRA) Box/No Box Nitro Jam
championship, along with $1,000 for his
win in the King of the Hill match against
Plum Wild, driven by Sheldon Hudson.
The race was part of the MOPAR Ca-
nadian Nationals July 17-19, and Allin
was racing his 455 -powered 1969 Trans
Am.
With his time trials, Allin was running
between 9.42 seconds and 9.48. Howev-
er, when it came time for elimination, he
said he set the mark in the middle.
"We gambled on a 9:45," he said. "And
we ran 9:45 four times.
"That is very consistent."
In a sport where thousandths of a sec-
ond can make or break victory, Allin and
his pit manager/wife, Debbie, fine-tuned
the Trans Am to where he was able to get
a near -perfect leave half the time.
The two credit their motor, 'Old Faith-
ful', for its consistency on the track. It
was the same motor that earned Wayne
top ET in Grand Bend in 2006.
The Allins will be putting in a new mo-
tor this week, a 535 cubic inch Pontiac
from Super -Duty Performance of Chili-
wack, British Columbia.
Both Wayne and Debbie encourage
anyone to go to Grand Bend Motorplex,
and catch some of Goderich's best -kept
secrets on the quarter -mile.
"It's a great track for racers and specta-
tors," said Debbie.
"It's the premier drag facility in Cana-
da," Wayne added.
Meanwhile, they will be putting 'Old
Faithful' to use in a 1980 Chevy short -
box truck, to be driven by their son, Jon.
