GDCI students continue to be a tre- mendous group of involved and dedi- cated young people. All of our fall sports teams, field hockey, boys' vol- leyball, girls' basketball, tennis, golf, and cross-country running, have come out of the gates in full stride with vic- tories in league and tournament play. Our school bands can be heard prac- ticing early in the mornings as they warm up for concerts, competitions and visits to other schools. The GDCI Drama Club is in full rehearsal mode as it prepares to wow audiences with its presentation of the musical, ."The Boyfriend". Student Council has planned and pulled off a very successful Grade 9 Activity Day and Dance, and is plan- ning the annual GDCI Walk-A-Thon for Thursday, September 24. Many more great activities are planned for our students. Our Hospitality classes are operating the t'afeteria and this is proving to be a very successful business venture for them. The GDCI cafeteria has never been busier! The ever -professional GDCI staff has helped welcome new and veteran Viking students alike with their com- mitment to extra -curricular activities as • ••. •: • •• • ••• • '• 1 j • • • • • • • •' • • • • • 1 • • • • €W»iemor Chap Make Your Own Beer, Wine, Coolers and Fruit Wine (darer here er at hemel) 84 Kingston St, GODERICH 524-2323 11 Bingo at the Goderich Legion Early Bird 6:55 p.m., Sunday at 7p.m. 373987 Every Wednesday 6:55I!M. We welcome custodians Fred Shoemaker and Sue Laughlin; EA's Amy Bakker, Tamara Crocker, and Fanny Geleynse; as well as teacher Mark Moore to the staff of GDCI. 'From the principal's point of view, GDCI has enjoyed an- other wonderful start. One aspect of life at GDCI that re- ally deserves compliments is the inte- gration of the Goderich Public School Grade 7 and 8 classes into the building. Students from both schools are coexist- ing seamlessly. • The GPS students are enjoying the cafeteria and gymnasium facilities, as well as the new recess area that has been provided for them. Staff members from both panels are sharing spaces very successfully and I'm confident that the experiences of all involved will be very positive throughout the school year. F me GROG. The GDCI Commencement is planned for Friday, October 9 starting at 8 p.m. in the west gym. We're all looking forward to seeing our most recent graduates return for the evening so they can receive the recog- nition they deserve, and so they can tell us how well they're doing in their post- secondary lives. If any parents or students have ques- tions, I encourage them to call the school for help. As always, it promises to be a great evening of celebration of student success! Parents of current students should take note that we will be holding anoth- er celebration of student achievement that same morn- ing. Students from last year's Grade 9 -through -12 class- es will be honoured for academic suc- cess in our second Academic Awards assembly. I would like to close by asking all parents of GDCI students to consider becoming part of the GDCI School Advisory Council (SAC). Kimberley Payne was the chairperson until she de- parted Goderich late last school year. Payne did a fantastic job, but her po- sition is now vacant and I encourage you to consider taking on that or an- other role on the SAC. With the inte- gration of GPS with GDCI, this prom- ises to be an exciting time and parents are absolutely key in helping determine the future of the Goderich educational community. The first SAC meeting of the year is planned for Wednesday, September 23 (yes, tonight!) at 6:30 p.m. in the library at GDCI. I hope to see many of you there!
