They came. They saw. They
praised.
Hundreds of area residents
came out to Clinton Saturday
for the much -anticipated grand -
opening celebration for the Mu-
nicipality of Central Huron's $5.2
million Regional Equine and
Agriculture Centre (REACH) of
Central Huron on Beech Street.
In giving praise to the .project's
partners, Morag Watt, chair-
woman of the Clinton Raceway's
board of directors, says the vision
was a lofty one from the start.
"We are very pleased to be able
to contribute to such an amazing
project," says Watt, noting the
raceway has enjoyed a long rela-
tionship with Central Huron and,
as such, it wanted to be on board
with REACH both conceptually
and financially to ensure the fa-
cility is all it

"It is a
pretty spe-
cial and ex-
citing day," says Dykstra.
In giving praise to the project's
drivers, including REACH CAO
Richard Harding, Dykstra notes,
"only a few short years ago this
was only a dream."
Today, says Dykstra, REACH
is a centre that will serve the
region for many generations to
come. Indeed, says Dykstra, edu-
cating youth is a main driver for
REACH, which has the mandate
to provide a place for people to
learn, compete and have fun.
It will also be a site for horse-
manship competitions, farming
events, fairs and festivities.
"It is a facility built for the fu-
ture,' says Dykstra. "It is a facil-
ity for the youth."
Dykstra .notes he is especially
pleased to see that REACH will
give youth a chance to hone their
skills in the equine. and agricul-
ture arenas - two longtime pillars
of the Huron County economy.
Bluewater Mayor Bill Dowson,
bringing salutations to the cer-
emony on behalf of the County
of Huron, also sang the praises of
REACH.
"It is a double pleasure for me
to be'. here today," he says. "We
need people to remain in our
county. We need all the help we
can get."
In expressing the spoken
thoughts of some of the day's
hundreds of visitors, Dowson
opined, "will it all work?"
The answer?
"We're sure it will."
Dowson believes the entire re-
gion will benefit from the proj-
ect.
"I'm totally amazed by what is
here for you to see for the rest of
the day," he says.
Huron -Bruce MPP Carol
Mitchell, who hails from Clinton,
says the grand -opening celebra-
tion marks a proud day in Huron
County's history books.
"We begin a journey on how
to engage our youth," she says.
"How do we retain them? We're
building for the next genera-
tion."
Mitchell also gave thanks to
REACH's partners, including the
University of Guelph, Ridgetown
College and the Ontario Ministry
of Agriculture Food and Rural
Affairs for "making today a real-
ity."
"Today you see a full partner-
ship going forward," she says.
Among the many events on tap
for the day's hundreds of visitors
were Friesian horse displays,
barrel racing, western games,
dressage demonstrations as well
as a vast array of vendors and ex-
hibitors.
