providing short-term emotional
support and practical assistance to
victims in partnership with police
and other emergency service per-
sonnel. Funding for the program
is provided through the Ontario
Victim Services Secretariat of the
Ministry of the Attorney General.
Due to the great need for our ser-
vices in the Huron County, we
must raise the funds that are used
directly for our core services; such
expenses as the maintenance and
replacement of crisis responders'
pagers, assembling and restocking
responder packs that are loaded
with essentials needed to respond
effectively on -scene like flash-
lights, blankets, resource books,
toys, etcetera. There are currently
more than 80 crisis responders in
Huron County responding to all
types of crime and trauma in our
community.
Get your tickets early and come
and support Victim Services and
Huron County's finest dancers!

event please contact the Victim
Services office at 524-4108 or visit

Closure could mean client referrals to London

board members that the epilepsy
organization significantly reduces
costs for both the provincial health
care system and the education sys-
tem by educating families and school
communities about the neurological
condition, preventing visits to emer-
gency departments and ambulance
rides.
"When my five-year-old has .a
seizure at school, rather than call-
ing the ambulance they realize they
just need my seven-year-old to make
my son comfortable and 45 m►,>lutes
later, he's running around healthy as
can be," explained Melady.
He said 35 per vent of the orga-
nization's funding comes from the
United Way and the other 65 per cent
is a result of fundraising by volun-
teers and staff.
"There would be a huge cost bur-
den on the Ministry of Health and
the Ministry of Education without
us," he said.
When LHIN board member Linda
Stevenson asked what the impact
would be if the local Epilepsy chap-
ter closed, Epilepsy board member
Laura Brown responded that clients
could be referred to London where
a huge geographical area is already
being served.
Melady also pointed out that many
family physicians and other health
care workers are not experts in epi-
lepsy and don't have the answers the
organization does.
"As difficult as it is, we need to fo-
cus on services, not organizations,"
responded Gamble.
Armstrong said after the meet-
ing that she has been asking for
Kase funding from the LHIN since
last November and has submitted a
proposal for one-time funding from
the LHiN's surplus budget. She said
Epilepsy Huron -Perth -Bruce is ask-
ing for $60,(X)0 per county.
"If you support one person with
epilepsy, you've educated 100 peo-
ple so the thought of closing the
doors makes me profoundly sad,"
said Brown.
