Sarah Cox has got a new lease on her
professional life, and it's thanks, in a big
part, to the Centre for Employment and
Learning.
Cox, who until recently had been a cook
for the Godeich Daycare Center, is run-
ning a massage therapy business out of her
home, and working at the Benmiller Inn.
Unable to continue in her field due to the
toll it was taking on her physically, Cox
went searching for other options. Not hav-
ing.her Grade 12 diploma, she said her op-
tions were limited.
"I had taken some time off, and the doc-
tor said I wasn't going to be able to go
back," she said. "And I was worried, I had
always been a cook, and I didn't have any
other training, I didn't want to become a

As a volunteer, Lucy gives her time and says
she receives so much more. Lucy wanted a
volunteer position as unique as she is, so she
checked out Huron Hospice Volunteer
Service. Now she experiences a deep
satisfaction that comes from helping
others when they need it most.
Hospice is about living, not dying.

part-time (retail) employee."
Cox turned to the Education and Learn-
ing Centre, who helped her get her Grade
12 diploma, and when it became apparent
she wouldn't be able to do anything locally
with only that, had her take an aptitude and
interest test.
"[The test] told me I would like health-
care work," she said. "And from there the
centre helped me put together a proposal."
Cox presented the proposal to the Em-
ployment Insurance Board, which has pro-
grams available for the unemployed, and
they approved it.
After 18 months of training at the Darcy
Lane Institute, Cox was ready to hit God-
erich with her own brand of massage ther-
apy.
Cox says that she can't believe how much
of a whirlwind the last two years has been
for her, but says thanks to the programs in
place, she now has a chance to do a second
job that makes her happy.
One of her first customers, Irene Dug-
uay, a representative of the Benmiller Inn,
hired Cox on the spot to work at the Inn,
and she is also running her own massage
therapy business out of her home.
She is available for clients out of her
Goderich home on Mondays and weekends
by appointment.
