Riding the bus can be a lot of fun, but there are
some rules to remember for a safe ride.
Entering or Exiting the Bus: Riding the Bus:
Stand at least 5 giant steps (10 feet)
away from the edge of the road.
Wait until the bus stops, the door opens,
and the driver says it's okay before stepping
onto the bus.
Be careful that drawstrings, straps or
dangling objects do not get caught in the
handrail or stuck in the bus door. "
When crossing, walk five big steps in front
of the bus; never walk behind the bus.
- Be sure the bus driver can see you, and you
can see the bus driver.
Stop at the edge of the bus and look
left -right -left before crossing.
- Tell the, bus driver if you drop something
beside the bus, otherwise the bus driver
may not see you when you try to pick it up.
Always sit fully in the seat and remember
to face forward.
Do not distract the driver for any reason
other than an emergency.
Never stand on a moving bus.
Listen carefully and obey all the
commands of the bus driver.
Don't yell or talk too loudly on the bus.
It can easily distract the driver, and
annoy others.
Never stick anything out the window —
arms, legs, head, bags, etc.
Remember that the bus is not your
property, so don't litter or deface it.
Keep it clean.
Report all suspicious individuals you
encounter in the area .of the bus
to your driver.

UW seeks help
for 2009 launch
The Huron United Way will be getting
some help with its 2009 campaign from a
neighbour -the United Way of Perth County.
Ellen Baimain, executive director of the
United Way of Perth County, has been sec-
onded to the Huron United Way part-time to
assist while the Huron board takes time to
do some planning and restructuring.
"We're very pleased that [Baimain] .will
be leading the 2009 campaign for Huron
County. Ellen has 10 years experience with
the United Way," said Huron Board Presi-
dent Jerry McDonnell.
"We're pleased to have her assistance
while our board members are taking time
to restructure the organization. We want to
make sure we're still able to launch a 2009
campaign to ensure our support for our
agencies in the coming year."
After two extremely challenging cam-
paigns that fell short of goal in 2007 and
2008 and two years of grant funding for
Community Matters that recently ended, the
Board is working to establish a new order
for the Huron UW.
"The residents of Huron County remain
our top priority as we move forward," stated
McDonnell.
"We are actively seeking volunteers for
the Campaign Cabinet to assist with our
major fundraising process of the year", re-
ported Ms. Baimain,
"We want to remind the community that
money raised in Huron County is utilized to
support Huron County initiatives --'raise lo-
cally - invest locally' is one of the tenets of
the entire United Way movement".
A campaign kick-off is being planned for
late September but donations are. already
being accepted for the 2009 campaign.
