Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities John Milloy and MPP Carol Mitchell were on hand to pres- ent the Carpenters Local with the $258,716 that made possible both the trailer, and the new training center on Cambridge street. Milloy explained that the money could not have been better spent. "[The future of Ontario] is about - the economy, and it's about the jobs... we need a highly educated, highly skilled workforce, and the skilled trades is what's really needed," he said. "And this will help with that." The grant was part of the Ontario Skills Training En- hancement Program (OSTEP), and the new trailer will serve as a traveling classroom, transportating tools to train apprentices throughout the Carpenters local area. Mitchell echoed Milloy's sentiment, saying that it is important to have this training available to the commu- nity, and it represents a critical component of growth for the future. Don Farrish, Organizer for the 2222, explained the new training centre, and the mobile classroom, are much- needed additions to the training capabilities of the union. "We cover about 14,000 square kilometres._ and we have members all throughout, we have to cover all that area," Farrish said. Bryon Black, the senior representative of the 2222, ex- plained how the funds made the advancements possible The training center features all new technology, like projectors and computer hooks -ups that will enable mo- bile employment training across the area.
