in the big prohibition fight in the States
is the now celebrated dialogue -debate
"Wet vs. Dry," by Hall and Summers.I
These men have campaigned in a great
many states in the Union, and with !
phenomenal results. "Bryan is Elo-
quent; Roosevelt is Blustery; Taft is
brainy; Wilson is logical. Then it is
known that Franklin was wise; Jeffer-
son diplomatic, and Hamilton brilliant.
Mix with them Billy Sunday enthusiasm,
Sam Jones gruffness and Lincoln humor

Hon Wayne B. Wheeler one of the
outstanding leaders of the temperance
movement, in the United States is the
national attorney of the Anti -Saloon
League. Mr. Wheeler was for some
years State Superintendent of the Ohio
Anti -Saloon League, and commanded
the forces there in some of their hard-
est fought battles. He now has charge
of the legislative campaign at Wash-
ington, where a national prohibition
bill is before Congress. Mr. Wheeler
is a most forceful and attractive speak-
er and, corning as he does, officially re-
presenting that great fighting organi-
zation the Anti -Saloon League, his pre-
- sence will be an inspiration and help to
us in our compaign here.
A feature of the Convention will be
a military band concert by the full
regimental band of the Queen's Own
Rifles, under theleadership of Band-
master B. 11. Barrow.' No band in
Canada stands higher in military and
musical circles than the Queen's Own.
A great treat is in store for those who
are privileged to be present at this
concert.
The Programme Committee has been
particularly fortunate in securing the
services of the eminent New York
Basso, Mr. Fred Butler, whom Dr.
Wilbur Chapman describes as "the
world's greatest interpreter of sacred
music " Mr. Butler was formerly with
the Alice Neilson Opera Company, but
has in recent years given his time to

it is said, over 2,500 sculptured human

Close to the entrance to the Forum,
w;...1•- this most wonderful collection of the
ruined monuments of ancient times, is
a small church called the Church of
St. Giuseppl del Falegnani. Under this
church are two dungeons, an upper and
a lower, called the Mamertine prison,
and from a bole in the upper chamber
prisoners were lowered into. the noi-
some hole below, sometimes to perish
miserably of starvation, as ,did .lugUr-

schoolboys become so familiar in their
first year of Latin.
In this dungeon,. uncounted thousands
of Christians believe, St. Paul and St.
Peter were immured, and :every year
on the night of the 4th of_July repre-
sentatives of alt the churches of home
assemble by torchlight and "in .solemn
silence kneel in front of the tradition-

To the Editor:-.
The Personal Liberty League must
be blind cf an eye. They can say
prohibition would injure the business of
the rich brewers and distillers, but they
cannot see that the liquor traffic has for
many long years been injuring
business of the dry goods man, the
boot and shoe man, the butcher, the
baker, and nearly every other business.
Closing the bar -rooms in Chicago on
Sunday alone has resulted in a great
improvement in business as reported by
firms of the highest standing
They can see that prohiuition would
compel those engaged in the liquor
business to enlist or find some honor-
able employment. but they are totally
blind to the thousands that their busi-
ness has caused to Tose their positions
and who are so ruined by drinkthat
they cannot get any other employ
and become a burden nn the public

ART WORK IN WOOD.
A Striking CameoEffect and.How it
• Was Produced.
"1 saw a new thing in the art line
the other day which surprised me and,
I may also say, pleased me," said an
art resort dilettante in a group of
kindred spirits. "It was what the
artist called a wood cameo, and it•was
something I had never seen before.
"That it was wood did not appear as
it hung on the wall, and I asked him
for particulars. It was about a foot
square with an oval center, containing
a bas-relief of a Greet. goddess, The
square was in ebony and mahogany
and the head in white wood.
