In Session at County Betiding* Last
Week

The January session of the 4C)UntY
council opened on Tuesday afternoon,
with all the members in attendance,
and they made the necessary declare,

Robert W. LivIngstone was appointed
'Warden for the year 1916, the motion
being introduced by J W. Taylor and
1J. O. Laithwaite, At the expiration of
the necessary half hour and there being
,im other nominations, Mr. Livingstone
1 tole his seat and briefly thanked the
members for the henor.
Among the matters awing up before
the council is the proposal for the ap-
pointrnent of a eounty agricultural re-

Mr.- John F. Groves of Wingham
wrote stating that a resolution
passed in the town council of that town
unanimously asking the county council
to make a liberai grant to the 161st
battalion for the purpose of recruiting.
Another motion touching. the 161st
was moved by R. Hardy and sem-aided
by J. C. Laithwaite, that the council
insure 'the lives of all who enlist in the
lest to the extent of $1,000 from the
time they leave Canada till they return
or for the term of the war.
The president of the Ontario God
Roads Association wrote notifying the
council of meeting of the Association in
Toronto, Feb, 22, 23 and 24, and asking
the appointment of delegates.

Aid Society arid the National Sanitarium
Association.
Police Magistrate S. J. Andrews of
Clinton asked for a grant to eover office
expenses on account of the additional
ooelay he was put to by having Bay-
field, Exeter, Hansen, Stanley, Hay.
Stephen land Usborne udded to his juris-
dietion. ,
The county of Hastings sought co-
operation in having the Health Act
amended so that Medical Health Offic-
ers could be dismissed by the municipal-
ity without the permissioo of the Pro-
vineial Board of Health.
This was sent to the special commit-
tee.
Dr. Nicholson was reappointed trus-
tee of the Goderich Collegiate Board,
Mr. '.‘fanning of the Clinton Collegiate,
Dr. Burrows, of the Seaforth Collegiate
and R. Vanstone of the Wingham High
Se.hool.
A. Porterfield and Mr. Holman were
appointed atiditors.
J. Leckie and W. Lane were appoint-
ed to the Board of Audit of Criminal
Justice accounts.
A motion to grant $1000 to Godericb,
Clinton and Wingham hospitals in the
same division as before was sent to
committee. Also a motion to great $25
to all public libraries in the county and
orte for a similar grant to Clinton, Sea -
forth tied Hensaltsprieg shows.

the touncil to ask for a grant to the

a$500 grant to the Children's Aid Soc-

county, Goderith, Clinton, Seaforth and
Wingham, that the same be made; re

Re tenders for county printing for
1916 four tenders were received end tbe
committee recommended the accept-
ance of the tender of the Goderich Sig-
nal as being the lowest.
