The,guessing contest put on by the
Exeter Merchants on Dollar Days
created considerable interest: A jai
containing marbles and • also three
rubber 11a11s. were en exhibition in
The Tinges window together with the
prizes. Anyone from town 'ok' coun-
try not connected in any way with
the Dollar Day stores were- entitled
to a' guess free and the'first one reg-
istering the nearest correct niiinber
received first prize. ,The total num-
ber of guesses received' were 569.
The majority of guesses iran ed be-
tweentween
seven and nine hundred, the
lowest guess•'being 300 and the high-
est 2000. The contest closed at .ten
o'clock Saturday night and a large
number were on hand to hear the,
results. The marbles were counted

The Ontario Agricultural College
>awarded prizes last week for the best
plays submitted -dealing ' with rural
life: The plays were judged at Cor-
nell University and Mr. 1I• Mason, of
Ottawa, aid Miss N. Medd,' a teacher
in the Exeter school, were the prize
winners. Their plays will be put on
at the Gmelph College this winter and
as soon as they are=p11111ished -rimy be
procured by any who wish' to produce
.them.

Dollar were observed by the
Merchants of Exeter on ,Friday and
Saturday lost and were a great suc-
cuss despite the very.inelement wea-
ther, .A heavy snow storm in the
form of a blizzard raged all day Fri-
day and by Saturday enough snow
had fallen to make autoing almost
impossible. In spite .Of this fact the
dry goods merchants of town were
not able to handle the -large orowds
that thronged the stores in the <after-
noon. The shoppers were well pleas
ed with the bargains put on by the
merchants.
