Peewee Seahawks end season with wins
On Sunday, August 16, the Gardiners Peewee Seahawks
travelled to Flesherton to participate in a single elimination
tournament. Under extreme conditions, the Seahawks took
to the field from 1:30 p.m. and never got off the diamond
until after 7:00 p.m.
Game one saw them face Kincardine. The Seahawks
came out with some strong bats led by Tyler Moss, James
Tigert, and Robbie Franken. Starting pitcher John Doherty,
followed by Jonathan Ridsdale, Tigert, and Mykal Hodges
did a great job of pitching in a close ball game. Kincardine
led by four runs heading into the last Goderich at bat. The
locals tied the game to send it to extra innings. Kincardine
again took a four -run lead into the bottom half of the extra
inning. The Seahawks did a great Job of completing the
comeback on a base hit by Owen Edward to win the game
15-14.
Goderich next faced Saugeen Shores in the final. 'I'ler
Berry, pitching his last game as a Peewee, saved his best
performance of the season for the end. Berry pitched an
awesome game showing some great mental toughness in
some difficult situations.
Hodges did an excellent job of closing out the 11-5 vic-
tory. Ryan Hill, Connor Cox, and Lucas Hoggarth provid-
ed a lot of extra effort necessary in sealing this victory.
These last two wins were a great way to close out the
2009 season for this young Peewee squad giving a great
deal of inspiration for the 2010 season.
