"It's just one of those days," said club president, Wilf Hig- gins. "This is about a tenth of what we'd normally have." Higgins said model flight clubs from Kincardine, Strat- ford and Forest were well -rep- resented at the Fun Fly, with most of the Sky Harbour club working hospitality for their out-of-town visitors. "It's nice to meet up with other clubs when we can," he said. "So far, it's been a good day. We've only had one crash and it was nothing serious." Planes can can vary greatly in cost, depending on their size, build and power supply. Higgins said typically, build- ing a plane start to finish can run upward of 150 hours, how- ever there are many models that can be purchased "ready - to -fly". Those who were ready to fly Saturday had to wait while periodic showers cleared up. David Ellis of the Kincardine model flight club said the weather was definitely affect - "See how it's bobbing a lit- tle?" he asked Saturday morn- ing. "There's just a bit of tur- bulence going on." His Multiplex Easy Start foam plane was cutting through the turbulent air above the miniature air strip, located at Empson Field off Highway 21. With no landing gear and the propeller situated behind the wings, Ellis was able to pull off a touch-and-go manouever with ease on his model, which he said was a great choice for seasoned fliers and beginners alike. Ot:iers, like Ford Somer- ville of the Ottawa area, had larger planes that were scale models of existing aircraft — in his case, a T28 Trojan. One of the local crew taking part in Saturday's fly, Bill Fry of Goderich was out with his plane Deuces Wild, a twin -en- gine, electic motor model. The club has about thirty members, and Higgins said everyone is welcome to come out and see the model planes in action. Sailors swoop on Hawks The Goderich Ju- nior 'C' Sailors took a big pre -season win this weekend, with a 7-2 routing of last year's champs, the Walkerton Hawks. Greg Trotter led the scoring with two, including one solo effort and a second -period power -play goal assisted by Tyler Durst. Durst notched three points in the game with one goal and two assists - all on the power -play. Walkerton's Jon Lemon and Kurt Petrick both received five- minute majors for fighting, as did the Sailors' Tucker Dorscht and Brent Debruyn. Both Debruyn and Petrick will be sitting next game due to misconduct penalties. Deryk Mitchell and Sheldon Reid shared goaltending duties.
