Livery. welcomes new GM
Gerard Cres
signal -star staff
At 22 years of age, Lisa Hood just
might be the youngest general manager
The Livery has ever had.
The announcement of Hood's appoint-
ment to GM was made during the open-
ing ceremonies at the Celtic Roots Festi-
val, where she was busy helping not only
the weekend events run smoothly, but
organizing the Celtic College as well.
Hood 'has been active in the Goderich
theatre scene for years, and said she first
got her start as an usher at the Livery.
"Back when I was in high school, I
started volunteering here," she said;
"The Livery has been a huge part of my
life."
Hood is replacing outgoing general
manager, Wes McVicar, and she said she
is indebted to 'him for the five years of
leadership and guidance she received
from him.
"I have a huge appreciation for all he's
done for the Livery," she said. "I owe
him so much."
A recent graduate of the University of
Toronto, Hood majored` in theatreand
also graduated Sheridan College's act-
ing program.
She said she feels incredibly fortunate
to be able to start the position so soon
out of school, adding the support she has
seen from Goderich's arts community is
overwhelming.
"It's a very big support base," she
said. ""I feel like I'm not really on my
own here at all."
For now, she is busy making a perma-
nent home in her office, where for the
past five years she has been a seasonal
occupant for the Celtic College.
Her new role will see her looking after
rentals, advertising, concerts, the film
festival and a large involvement in the
Livery's productions - on or off stage.
She got her start on the Livery stage in
the production of A Midsummer Night's
Dream, following that up with two Vic-
torian Christmas mysteries and "a cer-
tain Scottish play that could not be
.named within the theatre walls.
When it comes to on-stage performers,
Hood said Goderich has no shortage of
talent, especially in the youth.
"One thing I find amazing is we all
come from the small town with one high
school and now one elementary school,"
she said. "And we're still producing
great theatre and putting so many stu-
dents into post -secondary theatre pro-
grams."
Helping develop and encourage that
talent is "an awesome group of volun-
teers and board members," she said.
Using herself as an example, she said
the theatre is a great way for people to
get involved in the community, and any-
one who want to offer their services, be
it backstage, on stage, or in the house,
is welcome to drop by the Livery to see
how they can help.. .
"It's a huge part of my life,"' she said.
"I'd love to see it become a big part of
someone else's Iife too."
