Permanent makeup a colourful choice

Goderich's Skin Essentials is going a little further than
skin deep with their newest service; permanent make-up.
Permanent make-up is a tattoo -like technique through
which skin is tinted to give the illusion of makeup being
worn when none is. The technique can provide a range of
visual effects; from a barely noticeable lightening or dark-
ening of the desired area right up to permanent eye -shadow
and lipstick. Debbie Johnston, owner/operator of Goderich
Skin Eseentials, said other than the artists, the store, and
the wearer, no one is able to tell the difference.
Johnston, has recently started offering the services of
Dorothy Kizoff, permanent make-up artist, on an on -de-
mand basis.
"[Kizoffl doesn't work out of our shop, but she does trav-
el around, so, once 1 get enough people interested, we call
her out and she comes in," Johnston said. "Then I call up
those who are interested and start booking appointments."
The makeup service is considered a para -medical op-
eration, meaning there is medical training involved, and
can be used for restorative makeup after accidents, to fix
problem skin, or to simply make the morning quicker and
easier.
"It's great, especially here in cottage country," Kizoff
explained. "It's always on, so whether you're on the boat,
exercising, or getting ready to go out for the day, it's very
easy. There's no prep. It also frees up the bathroom in the
morning."
The average session takes about two hours,
and most of that is preparing the client by draw -

ing, verifying, and freezing the client's face before doing

Kizoff explained. "So whether
you just have to look great all the
time, or whether you're just not all
that great at putting on make-up,
it's a great option."
As with any tattooing, there
is fading, and every two to five
years a touch-up may be neces-
sary, however it's a minimal pro-
cedure she said.
Kizoff said they take every
pre -caution, making sure the cli-
ent knows exactly what they are
in for.
"1 freeze the muscles, so there's
no movement, and no mistakes,
and we have a consultation
before -hand, and we make the
make-up fit the person's skin, as
well as their lifestyle.
