Port Albert looks for drainage answers

Port Albert residents can start looking
forward to an end to the stormwater and
drainage problems that plague them.
The village suffers from a lack of
drainage due to growth in the town and
improper road construction in previous
years, according to engineers.
Dale Erb, of B.M. Ross explains that
the task is a daunting one, with many dif-
ferent things needing to be changed.
"There's really no defined ditch on
London Road, and it is higher than the
lands around. The road structure is di-
lapidated, and the roadside drainage is
poor to non-existant," he said.
Roads in the area, including Anne,
William and Ashfield streets, lack the
swales and ditches needed to take water
away from the road and prevent water
pooling and other potentially dangerous
conditions, according to Erb.
Erb explained that the work that will be
done will implement swales on the side
of the road, and drainage pipes, which
were intended for farm land and not ur-
ban uses, will be replaced with larger di-
ameter ones.
Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Town-
ship council and B.M. Ross and Associ-
ates have set.a'tenative date for a public
information meeting on September 19 in
Kingsbridge.

The Alexandra Marine and General Hospital is
temporarily closing most of the radiology department
beginning the second week of September 2009, for
planned renovations related to the installation of the
new CT scanner and new X ray equipment. We are
very excited about our renovations and the
improvements this will make to our department
including the mammography suite. During the
temporary closure of the mammography suite, no
OBSP exams will be able to be completed. We
understand the inconvenience this may cause you
during this time. The following options have been
made available for you:
•Book your breast screening appointment
before September 11, 2009.
•Arrange your screening appointment at
another OBSP site.

•Please call the OBSP to discuss your options
at 519-440-0783 or 1-800-461-0640.
Thank you for your patience and continued support
during this difficult time. We hope these options
will provide some assistance during this period.
Watch for our anticipated re -opening
announcement in January 2010.
