Maitland Country Club hosts Verna Kane Memorial tourney
On Monday, August 6, Men's Night,
Jim McCaffery shot a 32 for first low
net. First low gross went to Dave Cor-
nish with a score of 35. Bill Tideswell
was closest to the pin on No. 1 and Ray
Bedard shot a 36 for second low gross.
Other winners of the night were Bill
Brown, Bill Hanly, Brian Allen and
Corey Haylow.
August 10, Men's Night, Jim McCaf-
fery, and Bill Leddy shot 31 for first
low net. Ian Gould shot 35 to take first
low gross, Ray Bedard came closest to
the pin on No. 1 as well as sharing sec-
ond low gross with Nathan Daer with a
score of 36.
Other winners were John Hoy, Bill
Hanly, Jeff Sowerby, Bob Colquhoun
and Gary Lynch.
On Tuesday Morning, August 11, Se-
nior Men's League saw 72 players take
to the course. The winners were: Flight
A - Wayne Weaver, B - four players
tied, C - Bob Colquhoun, D - Don El-
liott and Eric Gosse, E - Ernie McVit-
tie and Dayle Wickie, F - Ted Johnston.
Closest to the pin on No. 1 Bill Bar-
wick.
On Tuesday Evening, August 11,
Ladies' League, Chris Reeve and Sal-
ly MacEwan came in with the fewest
putts.

low net, Tara Wright, Third flight, low
gross, Betty Helesic, low net, Mary

Wednesday, August, 12, Junior Day
saw a good group of young people out
to play a scramble.
First place team: Jarred Bakker, Ethan
Lajuenesse, David Fincher and Tomas
Hamilton; Second place, Andrew Avis,
Taylor Helesic, Colton Smith and Ry-
lan Lamb; Third place, Konrad Schilbe,
Nate Helesic, Chase Kulich and Laine
Fincher. Fourth place, Brock Dykx-
hoorn, Billy Fincher, Riley Smith and
Jamie Henderson.
Juniors be sure to sign up for Cham-
pionship Day, 12 and over August 24,
11 and under August 26.
On Thursday, August 12, the Mai-
tland Golf and Country Club held the
Annual Verna Kane Four -Ball -Best -
Ball sponsored by Scotia Bank.

in Huron and neighbouring counties en-
joyed themselves in one of our warmest
days this summer and a well prepared
course.
The winners of this well -organized
tournament were:
First team: Wendy Harvey, Irene Oka-
hashi, Pam Marshall and Martha Arch-
bold. Congratulations to this Maitland
team who not only won the Verna Kane
trophy and were overall winners.
Second place team: Marg Preston,
Joanne Gumb, Charlotte McCorquodale
and Shirley Baechler from Sunset; Third
place from Stratford, Joan Styko, Ceci-
lle Benki, Bev Meyer and Dot Nelles;
Fourth place from Owen Sound, Ellie
Lozon, Sue Honer, Chris McCrae and
Diane Guse.
