Bedour is recently returned from the Tyson Tour, where he scored a 70 at the Forest City National to take first place with one under par. Bedour also took a third place finish in the tour's Sarnia stop, shooting a 73 for the day. At the Canadian Optimist Junior Golf Na- tional Championships in Ingersoll, Aug. 10- 12, Bedour narrowly missed the cut by one stroke, shooting 81. and 78. However, the young golfer said he has plenty of room to grow. • One of the more challenge aspects of the game, he said, comes from older competi- tion. In the junior golf equation, time equals distance. "I'm still one of the younger ones, out there," he said. "The older ones tend to hit a bit further than I do." He said his short game is the best part of his round and he hopes to work on his long ball for next year. Bedour said he intends to build up his strength over the winter so he can increase his distance on the fairway. "I want *to get stronger," he said. "And try to hit the ball further." Now off the tour, Bedour said he will be taking part in local club championships at Maitland, Sunset and Seaforth. His season is still far from over, however he already has his sights set on more provincial tournaments next year. Summer attendance up at YMCA signal -star staff While an unusually rainy summer may have kept kids indoors more often, there is no slowing down of youth engaging in physical activ- ity in Goderich, according to the YMCA. Kids programs coordina- tor at the Goderich Y, Amy Wei, said attendance has been great this year for kids programming, and espe- cially for sports camps. A total of 216 children registered this year, com- pared to 176 in 2008, and Wei said even with a shaky economy, things are going well at the YMCA. "It's been very popular," she said. "We do the regu- lars, basketball, baseball, soccer, ultimate frisbee... But we did have specialties with foil -fencing and karate and bowling as well."
