Goderich's Chamber of Commerce is
unrolling a new plan to help generate more
sales for local businesses.
The Member to Member Discount Pro-
gram is aimed at getting people to shop lo-
cally, according to chamber Chief Executive
Officer Judy Crawford, and is an inexpen-
sive way to promote products and services.
"We want to get our members shopping
at each other's businesses," she said. "And
it's not just for managers and owners, it's for
everyone."
The program provides each permanent,
full-time employee of member businesses
with a card that identifies them as a par-
ticipant in the program. The card can be
presented at member businesses to provide
discounts. Fifteen member businesses were
providing discounts as of August 13, ac-
cording to Crawford.
"It's the perfect program to increase and
promote businesses, and to promote the
chamber," Crawford said.
Businesses providing discounts include
The New Grapevine, which provides a 10
per cent discount, The Bean, which provides
20 per cent off breakfast items, Chisolm's
T.V. & Stereo, who will provide a one year
extended warranty on purchases, the Huron
Small Business Center, which will provide
one free workshop per calender year, Mc-
Donald's, which provides a free ice cream
cone or pie with a value meal, and many
others.
"We'll get some more discounts soon,
since only 40 of the [approximately] 250
members have replied so far," Crawford
said.
"We want to get our member's
employees shopping at each other's
businesses. The program is not just
for managers and owners, it's for
everyone."

Enrollment in the program is free,
though a $20 printing and advertising
charge applies to those businesses want-
ing to provide a discount. Participating
businesses that don't wish to offer a dis-
count can obtain cards by filling out a
form and telling the chamber how many
employees they have that are eligible.
The discounts will be designed by the
business offering them, making few many
different opportunities available. Some
suggestions made by the Chamber in-
clude a straight per cent discount, free
delivery, gift cards, or free services.

gram, or any of the Chamber of Com-
merce's services, . Crawford can be

Cadets take advanced aviation course
Goderich's Ted Shaw, (right), a member of 532 Maitland Squadron, and
classmate Jared Payment from 182 G.M. Stefnufastur Squadron of Gimli,
Manitoba, collaborate on a lab assignment at Canadore College's Aviation
Campus in North Bay. They are two of 60 teens from across Canada selected
for the Royal Canadian Air Cadets' Advanced Aviation Technology Course -
Aviation Maintenance. The intensive six-week course concluded Aug. 14,
sending the cadets back to their home squadrons with a wealth of newly -
acquired knowledge about aircraft structural, powerplant and avionic repairs
and maintenance.
