The Member to Member Discount Pro- gram is aimed at getting people to shop lo- cally, according to chamber Chief Executive Officer Judy Crawford, and is an inexpen- sive way to promote products and services. "We want to get our members shopping at each other's businesses," she said. "And it's not just for managers and owners, it's for everyone." The program provides each permanent, full-time employee of member businesses with a card that identifies them as a par- ticipant in the program. The card can be presented at member businesses to provide discounts. Fifteen member businesses were providing discounts as of August 13, ac- cording to Crawford. "It's the perfect program to increase and promote businesses, and to promote the chamber," Crawford said. Businesses providing discounts include The New Grapevine, which provides a 10 per cent discount, The Bean, which provides 20 per cent off breakfast items, Chisolm's T.V. & Stereo, who will provide a one year extended warranty on purchases, the Huron Small Business Center, which will provide one free workshop per calender year, Mc- Donald's, which provides a free ice cream cone or pie with a value meal, and many others. "We'll get some more discounts soon, since only 40 of the [approximately] 250 members have replied so far," Crawford said. "We want to get our member's employees shopping at each other's businesses. The program is not just for managers and owners, it's for everyone." • — Judy Crawford Chamber of Commerce CEO Enrollment in the program is free, though a $20 printing and advertising charge applies to those businesses want- ing to provide a discount. Participating businesses that don't wish to offer a dis- count can obtain cards by filling out a form and telling the chamber how many employees they have that are eligible. The discounts will be designed by the business offering them, making few many different opportunities available. Some suggestions made by the Chamber in- clude a straight per cent discount, free delivery, gift cards, or free services.
