The Goderich Art Club once again showed their
stuff this weekend, at their annual show and sale
at the CPR Station Aug. 8-9. The event involves
more than 20 local artists, and takes place during
the Celtic Festival. Far left, artist Judy Barker
proves that a rose by any other size is still as
sweet with her miniature
paintings. At left, Bill Corbett,
10 -year member of the art
club, displays the different
stages he uses to carve a
hummingbird. Corbett also
entertained children at the
art show, making stick men
for kids when the rains had
festival goers seeking drier
ground.
Green trade show creates positive energy

Goderich played host to a gathering of green gadgets and technolo-
gies on Wednesday, August 5 as the Center for Applied Renewable
Energy (CfARE) hosted the "It's Easy Being Green" trade show at the
Knights of Columbus Hall.
The trade show presented 'greener' versions of everything from trans-
portation to lighting to heating and cooling, as well as environmental
groups.
Joan van der Meer, Manager of CfARE said that the day went very
well, and that along -side the 400 participants and 35 vendors, she got a
lot of positive feedback.
"We got a lot of positive evaluations, a lot of good comments, and the
presenters were very impressed with tile knowledge some participants
had," she said.
Opened with a ribbon -cutting ceremony, both presenters and digni-
taries telt it was a very important event for the community, and felt it
raised awareness of environmental issues.
"I think it's an excellent idea," said Mayor Deb Shewfelt. "It's a long
and hard struggle to get people to sign onto green ideas, but all it takes
is one success. One successful thing leads to other opportunities."
Education about greener options is of key importance, according to
Shewfelt, and he says. that Goderich's town council has backed up that
idea with greener choices recently, like environmentally friendly insu-
lation and low-energy lighting in town buildings.
"The bottom-line is we can do more with our local homes, while,
at the same time, not spending extra money, and making more local
jobs," Shewfelt said.
Environmentally friendly choices in town are a direct result of Go-
deirch's Environment Committee and environmental services tech-
nologist Jennette Walker, and Shewfelt said that it was a great thing

that the council of the day chose to create positions to pursue these
opportunities.
The trade show happens every two years and van der Meer explained
the next one will take place in Goderich in 2011.
