HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Goderich Signal-Star, 2009-08-05, Page 28Page A28 - Goderich Signal -Star, Wednesday, August 5, 2009 New players, new staff, new outlook for 2009 Sailors The Goderich Junior 'C' Sailors main camp will be getting underway Saturday, August 8, at 1 p.m. at the Maitland Recreation Centre - Sifto Arena There will be two skates on Sat- urday 1-2:30 and 4-6 p.m. The 1 p.m. skate is an open skate to all who are interested in competing for a spot on the team. Although this is the start of main camp the Junior `C' Sailors coaching staff and execu- tive have been very active this summer host- ing Monday night skates and Thursday night workouts. These both have been very well attended and have demonstrated to everyone that Goderich has changed its approach in de- veloping a successful hockey organization. We are very pleased with the appointment of Head Coach Todd Goetz. Goetz has al- ready spent countless hours at the MRC and on his phone talking to potential players. Any player with aspirations to see how far their hockey potential will take them will ap- preciate Goetz as their Head coach. I do not know of any other coach, at any level who is willing to go out of their way to see that a player has every opportunity to develop to their highest potential if they are prepared to put in the time and effort. Goetz is a student of the game as he attends regularly the most prominent coaching clinics to stay current on hockey trends and developing successful teams. He just recently returned from a clinic featuring head coaches Bruce . Boudreau from the Washington Capitals and Peter De- boer from the Florida Panthers of the NHL. Goetz has also surrounded himself with top notch assistants. • s I• T U , U aNi n E co ocvmiw.. a) 2 -6" c cr Or NNW ZOOS OR MOO HONDA RCHASE OR LEASE AND YOU COULD 1 www.HondaOntario.com Ontario Honda Dealers THE SMARTER WAY TO BUY. The Junior 'C' players will be well looked after. We have been very active this spring and summer talking to players about their inten- tions this coming season. W have had tre- mendous success in sharing our vision for developing players to their highest potential. We have had the opportunity to sign several local players who have the right skill level, character and leadership. We are proud to have a strong Goderich contingency. We are pleased that Brandon Dykxhoorn, a skilled and dominant physical force on the blue line last season will return for his third season with the Sailors. Brendan Thomson will be returning as an "over ager". We look forward to his physical- ity and intensity. Brendan missed most of last season with an injury. We are very excited at his return for a full season. New Goderich signings include: Both Goaltenders Shawn Gethke and Derek Mitchell will provide stable and stellar See SAILORS, Page 30.
