Don Johnston tournament champions crowned Sunday Donny Scott signal -star staff The Don Johnston Memorial Slo-Pitch Tournament was a huge success, accord- ing to organizer and Goderich Senior 'A' Pirates general manager Trevor Bazi- net. The tournament serves as one of the team's major fundraisers. "Given the way everything went, I think it'll be a record year for us for fund- raising," Bazinet said. "And that's great, given that we're down four teams from last year. In its fifth incarnation, the tournament brought 26 teams to three ball fields in Goderich, and the action was non-stop, as well as fair, according to Bazinet. "I think the one nice thing about this was that there wasn't any really stacked teams," Bazinet said. "They were basi- cally rec teams. For the most part, it was good baseball." At the end of the tournament, there were six big winners; in the Women's division, Fired Up took top honours with their 9-6 win over the local ladies Got2Dxine team, London Havoc won the 'B' division with their win over Pinnacle Quality Homes, and The Old Go4ers took 'C' division honours by beating the Jokhers. In the men's division, The . Drunkin' Douchebags turned one good inning into a 10-2 championship win over local fa- vourites the Park House Dirt Devils, while The Hurricanes beat out Kingsbridge for the 'B' division, and the Goderich Tim Hortons team took the 'C' division with a win over The Rangers. Many teams have already committed to coming back next year, Bazinet said.
