Festival to stage Celtic
Idol competition Sunday
The Goderich Celtic Roots Festival, in
celebration of its seventeenth year, has two
brand-new events to tempt your ears and get
your feet tapping: Celtic Idol and the Grand
Fiddle Frenzy.
CELTIC IDOL
Every year the Celtic Roots Festival wel-
comes stars from all over the world to its
stages, and this year there's a new act in
town — you!
With the Celtic Idol Open Stages, festival -
goers have a chance to perform for audi-
ence appreciation to win the ultimate prize:
a chance to do a "Tweener" (a five-minute
set) on the Main Stage before the final act
on Sunday, August 9. On each of the three
festival days, the festival will present a
Celtic Idol showcase from which a winner
will be chosen. Single acts only.
Contestants can register at the green shed
on the festival grounds. The showcases take
place on the West Stage beginning at 5 p.m.
each day.
GRAND FIDDLE FRENZY
In celebration of the huge number of pow-
erhouse fiddlers featured at the Celtic Roots
Festival this year, the closing act on the eve-
ning of Sunday, August 9 will be a Grand
Fiddle Frenzy, in which fiddlers from many
different traditions come together in an ex-
plosion of talent. Featuring: Wendy Ma-
clsaac (Cape Breton), Mairi Rankin (Cape
Breton), Devin Shepherd (USA), Patrick
Ourceau (Ireland), Brian McNeill (Scot-
land), Gemma Donald (Shetland), Iain An-
derson (Scotland), Ryan Couper (Shetland),
Andre Brunet (Quebec), Shane Cook (On-
tario), and Brian Taheny (Ireland). Because
of the special nature of the Grand Fiddle
Frenzy, the Festival is offering admission
to this event for only $10. Gates open at 7
p.m., and the Grand Fiddle Frenzy kicks off
at 9:30 p.m. Come see some of the world's
best fiddlers together on one stage, right
here in Goderich.
These events are still available to those
who hold weekend passes, which are $55
for adults and $50 for seniors and students,
available online, by phone, or at the gates.

Correction
In the July 29 edition of the Goderich Signai-
Star, the date for the Grand Fiddle Frenzy
was incorrectly presented. The Grand
Fiddle Frenzy will close the 2009 Celtic
Roots Festival Sunday, August 9. The
Signal -Star regrets the error.
