Inukshuk boom
A blooming inuksuit community has
popped up along Goderich's shores.
At the Rotary Cove July 25, more
than 10 peppered the stony reserves
as an ominous storm brewed in the
distance. The town was hit with a
brief but powerful rainfall with thun-
der and lightning Saturday evening.
Rebels to clean up beach
Rebels with a Cause, a group of lo-
cal youth working to prevent tobacco
use among youth, will soon be hitting
the Goderich Beach and the Bayfield
Beach to pick up cigarette butts.
This will be the third annual cigarette
butt cleanup. The Rebels will also be
attending events around the county to
promote their tobacco free messages.
On July 29, the Rebels will be pick-
ing up cigarette butts at the Goderich
Main Beach from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30
p.m. Then will do a presentation at the
YMCA for the children attending the
Wacky Water Day Camp.
On July 31, tht Rebels will beat the
Bayfield Main Beach picking up ciga-
rette butts from 1 p.m. until4 p.m.
"Every year we do the butt cleanup
because it makes a difference. Not just
for the people who go to the beach but
also for the animals inhabiting the area
but also for the water," said peer leader
Rachel Cannon. "The chemicals in the
cigarette butts can leach into the wa-
ter; this is dangerous for those swim-
ming. Animals can easily.choke on the
cigarette butts by mistaking them ' for
food."

most littered article of garbage. With
one in every five items of garbage be:
ing a cigarette butt, the Rebels have a
lot of work ahead of them.
