On the morning of the 17th, 312 Army and Air Cadets marched off the Parade Square of the Blackdown Cadet Train- ing Centre for the last time this year. The male and female cadets from across Can- ada will be graduating after successfully completing the general training courses and an Introduction to Survival training course. They have successfully com- pleted a two-week training course that included learning how to abseil, an over- night expedition and biathlon. The cadets have learnt and practiced team building that will benefit them at home, school, and in their local communities. THE BLACKDOWN CADET TRAINING CENTRE The Blackdown Cadet Training. Centre (Blackdown CTC) is located at Canadian Forces Base Borden. It is the largest of the eight Army Cadet Summer Training Centres across the country. The' training centre runs annually for a period of six weeks and accommodates approximately 2,200 youths between the ages of 12 to 18, from :the Sea, Army and Air Cadet Corps and Squadrons across Canada. The cadets are enrolled in a variety of train- ing and development programs that run in two, three and six week cycles. At any one time there are approximately 1,500 cadets at Blackdown with up to 500 of- ficers, Non -Commissioned Members (NCM), Staff Cadets and civilian staff. Upon arrival to the training centre, the cadets are issued with two field uniforms, sports clothing,- and bedding materials. They are then placed in one of the 12 companies (training groups), based on their age, interest and program availabil- ity. Each company holds approximately 130 — 150 cadets and is self-contained with washrooms, laundry facilities, and administrative staff. Each company is further divided into four to six platoons commanded by a Platoon Commander, typically a Lieutenant of the Cadet In- structors Cadre (CIC). In turn, the platoon is again divided into three sections. The cadet sections are led and supervised by Staff Cadets who are senior cadets with previous summer training experience. Staff Cadets have been nominated by their parents or home cadet unit, and have passed a selection screening process in order to be employed at the summer training centre. Upon arrival to Black- down CTC, Staff Cadets undergo a week of instructional training so that they are prepared for their upcoming tasking. After an evaluation process, they are as- signed various NCM ranks (i.e.. Sergeant or Warrant Officer) based on their skills and experience. They are designated as Staff Cadets and assist the CIC officers supervising the cadets in • their sections and platoons. The staff cadets ensure the cadets are dressed appropriately for their assigned training, instruct assigned lessons, provide clarification on cadet's questions, and offer leadership and guid- ance throughout the course. nor ro RUDAY 1o:00 If 10:00AMo New Inventory & Donation arriving daily 35400 HURON RD. • (ZEHR'S PLAZA) FORMER LOCATION OF GIANT TIGER IMPORTANT NOTICE To all Central Huron Property Owners The Municipality of Central Huron has a new Draft Zoning By-law.
