year's tournament will build
on the success of the 2008
edition.
"Our goal this year is to
hopefully make as much
as last year. Last year was
our most successful tourna-
ment, so we'd like to keep
that momentum this year,"
Trevor Bazinet, GM of the
Goderich Pirates said.
The tournament, now in
its fifth year, will start on
July 31 and run until August
2 on the Goderich Ag Park
and GDCI diamonds. The
event is a fundraiser for the

are down from last year, but
Bazinet says he is anticipat-
ing more reams joining.
"We're down from last
year in the mens side, but I11
hopefully have some teams
[sending their registration]
in this week," he said.
With a deadline of July 23
approaching, players who
want to field a team need to
act fast to get involved.
Winners and runners up
in each division win a cash
reward based on the num-
ber of competitors, and the
competition will be tough
this year.
"There's a lot of teams
that have been coming for
five years, and Goderich
has just expanded their
slo-pitch league, so that
will draw more interest,"
Bazinet said. "Six of the
eight men's teams from the
league will be in the tourna-
ment. There will be a lot of
local competitors, which is
great."
The event is free to spec-
tators, and teams can join
for $250.
The tournament recog-
nizes Johnston's life, in par-
ticular, his contributions to
the Senior 'A' Pirates. He
served as the team's general
manager.
The tournament will be
kicked off with one of John-
ston's grandchildren throw-
ing the first pitch at the
Goderich Agriculture Park
at 6:45 on July 31.
Anyone interested in
fielding a team can con-
tact Bazinet at (519)-525-
