Officer faces driving charges after collision
An OPP officer is charged with care-
less driving after the unmarked cruiser
he was driving went off Huron County
road and crashed into a bridge abut-
ment. Huron OPP said the July 7 crash
happened around 7:15 a.m. on Mor-
rison Line in Thckersmith Township.
The officer had minor injuries. The
cruiser was destroyed. Dwight Adams,
49, a 24 -year officer, is to appear in a
Goderich court.
DRUG CHARGES
(Goderich) 'Three Godrich residents
are facing drug related charges after
OPP pulled over their vehicle early
July 19. At approximately 12:30 a.m.
an OPP officer observed a vehicle trav-
elling southbound on Gibbons Street in
Goderich with daytime Winning lights
and no taillights. The vehicle was
stopped and a strong odour of marihua-
na
arihuana was detected inside.
OPP say the driver of the vehicle
showed obvious signs of impairment,
and a subsequent search of the vehicle
and its occupants lead to a
seizure of suspected can-
nabis marihuana. All three
Scanner will enhance
area healthcare

While there was considerable
debate at the county level over
Huron's financial commitment
to the scanner, Warden Ken Oke
said he was proud that county
government played an integral
role in the project adding that
the acquisition of a scanner po-
sitions Huron well to provide
adequate healthcare and attract
physicians.
"Congratulations to all in-
volved and Huron is proud to be
a part of this project," he said.
"We have to look after health
care and put our money where
our mouth is .because it is a dif-
ferent era. If we equip hospitals
now, all our hospitals will remain
vibrant and doctors and nurses
will be proud to work in this
area. I'm proud the county was
part of it and we need to make
health care great in Huron."
While the province's health
ministry does not fund capital
equipment projects, it had to
clear the way for the founda-
tion to commit to the fundrais-
ing effort. Huron -Bruce Liberal
MPP, Carol Mitchell, lauded the
efforts of local volunteers who
saw the project fundraising ef-
fort through to a successful con-
clusion.
• "I'm so proud of the commu-
nity and there was a strong, de-
termined group effort to see the
CT project get done,' she said "
This is an important diagnostic
tool and it will help attract phy-
sicians. Hats off to all of you. I
am proud of this community and
I am proud of the healthcare we
provide."
For county physicians and
medical staff, the availability of
a scanner will greatly enhance
the provision of healthcare and
eliminate the need to send pa-
tients out of the county for diag-
nostic scans.
"This renovation and renewal
will provide services far supe-
rior to what we had," Dr. Don
Neal said on behalf of the hos-
pital's medical staff. `The medi-
cal staff thanks the community,
board and staff for developing
a vision into reality. Finally, the
great black hole will be filled in
Huron County. The medical staff
is thankful and pleased."
Ashfield Colborne Wawanosh
Reeve, Ben VanDiepenbeek also
credited staff and volunteers for
following through on a vision
and generating the $5 million
required for the project.
"The townships donated
$100,000 for this important health
tool that will assist physicians
and residents," he said. "Con-
gratulations to all involved. It's
great to be a part of the project"
Construction on the addition
and renovations to the hospi-
tal will begin in the next few
weeks.
