The Huron County Art Show kicked
off its 10th season over the weekend and
welcomed three new pieces to the county's
coveted Art Bank.
More than 59 submissions were re-
ceived in 2009 from 36 artists, all vying
for one of just three spots in the county
collection.
During the July 19 reception at the Hu-
ron County Museum in Goderich, county
warden Ken Oke and Committee of the
Whole chair Bill Dowson revealed that the
bank's three new artists hail from Blyth,
Zurich and 'Bayfield.
First place went to Ron Walker of Blyth
for his submission Late Winter Landscape
2. Second to Zurich resident Elizabeth
Carr's Pumpkins in Exeter, and third place
was awarded to Anne Laviolette of Bay-
field for On the Forest Floor 2, Amanita
Mushrooms.
The Huron County Art Bank contains
examples of works by Huron County art-
ists in a wide variety of styles and themes.
Acquisitions for this significant collec-
tion are selected from submissions to the
annual art exhibition and sale organized
through the Huron County Museum.
Each year, a different artist from outside
Huron County, selects three pieces of art
submitted to the Huron County Fine Art
Show. These works are purchased by the
County and become part of the Huron
County Art Bank. This acquisition pro-
gram provides an opportunity for Huron
County artists to showcase their talent at
the Museum. Many artists offer their work
for sale during the exhibit.
Works from the collection are in active
use. They are presented in exhibitions and
are on display in various Huron County
buildings.
The strength of the collection lies in its
modern and contemporary works that of-
ten engage the landscape of this region in
order to portray the artist's "Huron Roots."
Take the opportunity to view and enjoy
this legacy from Susannah Lattimer, col-
lected today for future generations to cher-
ish. The Huron County Art Show will be
on display at the Huron County Museum
from July 19, 2009 to January 2, 2010. The
special exhibit is open to the public during
museum hours Monday to Saturday 10 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Regular admission rates apply.
