CT construction process underway Dave Sykes signal -star publisher With the first shovel of dirt clean- ly out of the way, the CT Scanner for Huron County project is offi- cially under construction. A number of local hospital em- ployees, board members and politi- cians were on hand Tuesday, July 14 for the official sod -turning ceremony at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital (AMGH) as the $1.7 million construction and renovation project begins on the diagnostic imaging centre that will house the CT scanner. Over the past 30 months, mem- bers of the AMGH Hospital Foun- dation Board and an army of volun- teers across the county raised over $5 million to finance the purchase of the scanner and required renova- tions to the hospital's imaging de- partment. The AMGH Board of Directors recently announced that Melloul- Blamey Construction Inc. was awarded the contract to build an addition and undertake the . re- quired renovations to the hospital's Diagnostic Imaging Department to house. the CT Scanner and new Fluoroscopy and general X-ray equipment. As AMGH Board chair Bonnie LaFontaine turned over the sod on the county project she called it "an exciting day" for healthcare in the county. "After great deliberation and excitement, we did it," she said. "This is a great day and this equip- ment will benefit all of Huron and beyond." The town of Goderich kick start- ed the campaign with a $1 million commitment over several years and Mayor Deb Shewfelt acknowl- edged that it was a pleasure to pro- vide the service to residents across the county.
