The Alexandra Marine and Gen-
eral Hospital (AMGH) is one step
closer to operating Huron County's
first CT Scanner following a ground-
breaking ceremony held July 14.
Hospital and foundation officials,
flanked by community dignitaries
drone the first spade into AMGH's
soil yesterday to signify the begin-
ning of the most visual portion of the
quest for CT yet.
The official ceremony marks the
start of the latest phase with contract-
ing company Melloul-Blamey, who
have signed on to begin construction
and renovation of the Diagnostic Im-
aging wing that will soon house the
scanner, fluoroscopy and general, x-
ray equipment.
Following the ceremony, members
of AMGH met with the representa-
tives from architectural firm Walter—
Fedy, Melloul-Blamey, and equip-
ment vendor Siemens to discuss
plans for further phasing, construc-
tion, and installation.
"We'm very happy with the prog-
ress so far," said Rick Bedard, direc-
tor
irerfor of clinical and support services at
AMGH. "It's nice to see it actually
coming to fruition."
The total cost of the construction
and renovation project is estimated at
$1.7 million.
At present, Huron is the only coun-
ty in the province without a CT scan-
ner. After little more than two years,
the county rallied together to raise $5
million for the CT Scanner for Huron
County campaign, one that funded a
large part of the equipment purchase
and installation costs.
