Wind symphony trills harbour July 11
Bring lawn chairs and beach blankets and settle in for
a one -of -a kind musical experience on Saturday, July 11
(rain date Sunday, July 12) at the main Harbour Beach
in Goderich. There's no finer sunset than along Ontario's
West Coast and this evening concert promises to be an ex-
ceptional musical event, beginning at 7:30 p.m. and will be
as colourful as the setting. The American Wind Sympho-
ny's concert stage, an integral part of the vessel, will be one
of the main attractions to this affordable family event with
tickets $10 per person and adult -accompanied children 12
and under free.
With only three stops on Canadian shores — Wind-
sor, Goderich and Sault Ste. Marie — this is an extremely
unique and rare opportunity. Goderich will be hosting the
A.W.S.O from July 9 to July 13.
The 2009 tour on the AWSO's unique floating stage,
"Point Counterpoint II" began in mid-June. The Point
Counterpoint II will entertain thousands as the vessel crus-
es the coasts of Lake Erie, Lake Huron and Lake Michi-
gan.
The orchestra's audiences bring folding chairs and blan-
kets to harbourside locations and watch as the shell of the
orchestra's floating arts center, "Point Counterpoint II,"
opens and the music begins. The music is unique and ex -

citing, the floating stage is a one -of -a -kind wonder, and the
setting is a harmonious blending of lakeside sounds and
lowering sun.
The arrival of Point Counterpoint II at harbours along the
route always causes a stir. The silver vessel, 195 feet long
and 38 feet wide, once seen on a foggy day, was mistaken
for a UFO! It was designed by architect Louis L Kahn. On
board the vessel, in addition to the hydraulics that create
the central stage, there are art galleries and a small theatre,
mom for crew members, staff and the orchestra conduc-
tor's family.
The American Wind Symphony Orchestra is a musi-
cal ensemble created from the wind instnunents found
in a symphony orchestra, which is dedicated to the per-
formance of contemporary classical music. The orchestra
members are young professional musicians and part of
their experience during the AWSO cruising season is stay-
ing with families in each haibour, providing experiences
that will encourage skills development and a continuing
interest in music for young musicians.
