Goderich Junior 'C' Sailors under construction for 2009-10
A very exciting season of Junior hockey
in Goderich is in the making for this coming
season. Players, hockey fans and the com-
munity will see a massive difference in our
organization on and off the ice this season.
We guarantee it.
Our first goal is to improve the hockey
club.
• We started this by assigning the Head
Coach position to Todd Goetz. Todd's repu-
tation for producing winning teams with win-
ning people and winning attitudes precedes
him with his success at the 'AAA' level for
the past six seasons. Todd's goal is to coach
players to their highest potential utilizing their
skills and talents for team success. To do this
he has surrounded himself with some highly
credentialed assistant staff in Jim Cooke, a
Canadian Olympic mental and physical con-
ditioning coach; Shaun Peet, a former OHL
and NCAA player also with head coaching
experience at the 'AAA' level; Dave Err-
ington as goalie coach at the 'AAA' level,
Jared Petteplace as trainer and hockey -savvy
Phil Arthur as special teams coach.
We have been very active this season in
our player recruitment. More than 80 invi-
tations have gone out to prospective players
followed by telephone conversations and
personal invitations. We have already seen
Dash for Diabetes
changes its course

The seventh annual Dash for Diabetes is
switching routes this year, moving from High-
way 21 to the streets of Goderich July 4.
"We're doing a five -mile, eight -kilometre
loop starting at the north steps of the court-
house;" said organizer Phil Paquette. "We don't
have the safety concerns that we had with the
Goderich to Port Albert run."
The new route will take runners from the
Courthouse north to North Harbour Road, be-
hind the elevators, up to Rotary Cove and back
to The Square.
With no major highway crossings and a large
stretch along the waterfront, Paquette said he
hopes to draw more people than ever for a sce-
nic, safe run.
Paquette said the Dash's goat is to raise
awareness for children with diabetes, as well
as to use physical activity to curtail its effects.
"It need not be a debilitating • disease," he
said. "We want people to keep active, exercise
in an effort to control and eliminate childhood
diabetes if possible."
People with diabetes can live healthy, normal
lives, he said. Physical fitness can diminish the
threat of diabetes as well as help to eliminate
childhood obesity.
The Dash for Diabetes is a local initiative,
and all monies raised will be split between chil-
dren living with the disease and research at the
Robarts Institute in London.
"To date, we've probably given about
$115,000," Paquette said.
Dundee Private Investments is the event's
major sponsor, and this year, a run will also be
held by their Kincardine offices.
The first 40 entrants will receive free t -shirts
and there is no set entry fee other than a volun-

changes, time and effort that people are put-
ting into this organization to create a better
hockey environment.
Todd anti Shaun are offering a 90 -minute
skate at the Maitland Recreation Centre ev-
ery Monday evening at 9:00 p.m. and also
Todd and Jim are available to all prospective
junior players at the MRC every Thursday
night at 7:00 p.m. for a strength and condi-
. tioning workout starting July 2..
Our second goal is to improve the game
day fan experience and community involve-
ment.
We have partnered this year with our com-
before to provide
amilies a junior game day
h would rival what is being
and, levels. What you
will see a our opening game will be what
you experience for all of our home games this
season. We can't wait until opening night in
September to provide a fan -friendly hockey
environment that will excite the audience.
Our third goal is to grow our volunteer base
and also expand our executive directors
We require enthusiastic, committed in-
dividuals who are interested in teaming up
with us to provide a hockey and game day
environment that is committed to excellence.
You do not necessarily need to know what an
offside is in order to be an effective volunteer
or director. We have divided our organization
into three committees which require specific
skills and character. We require both execu•
-
tive directors and volunteers in each of these
committees. These include Hockey Opera-
tions, Fundraising and Community Involve-
ment and Game Day Activities and Special
Events.
If you are interested in serving in any ca-
pacity as a volunteer or executive director in
any of these three committees we are very
interested in hearing from you. Call Dave
Dykxhoorn at 519-524-5584 for more de-
tails.
The Goderich Junior 'C' Sailors Annual
General Meeting will be held at 1:00 p.m. on
Sunday July 5.
