Walkabout theatre returns for St. Peter's bash
signal -star staff
The history of St. Peter's
Catholic Church and its role in
the community are set to be
played out in 11 scenes as
Warren and Eleanor Robinson
bring mobile theatre back to
Goderich streets.
As part of St. Peter's 175th
anniversary celebration, the
team has joined forces to revis-
it the walkabout -style of his-
torical -theatre made popular in
Goderich as part of the
Gairbraid summer company.
This time, though, they sa" it's
even bigger than before.
"One of the changes in this
amateur theatre production is
the special things ycu can do
for a single weekend run,"
Warren told The Signal -Star.
"We've rounded up a string
quartet, horse and buggy,
antique cars and a large cast
that you can't easily do for a
1.6 -week run."
The pair are at the helm of a
big production that spans th(
years 1834 to present day. Its
scenes are based on real events
and interpreted into "faction,"
according to Warren. The story

Take a walk back in time on a two-hour journey through just one of Goderich's fascinating historic
stories featuring 1.1 scenes rich in costumes, characters, music and dance. The St. Peter's Catholic
Church 175th anniversary walkabout will take place on June 26, 27, and 28.
of the British Empire and the
most awarded padre in
Canadian history. It references
the days of the Canada
Company and Tiger Dunlop,
and the service of Father
Schnieder who once fought for
Napoleon, and his memorable
French -German accent.
"I did a lot of research," said
Eleanor. "Some of the dialogue
is taken directly from histori-
cal accounts, but many charac-
ters are invented or based on
real-life models of notable res-
idents and memorable peo-
ple."
The St. Peter's Walkabout is
scheduled for three perfor-
mances June 26 to 28. It's easy
to moderate pace meanders
along a two kilometre route
that begins and ends at the
church. Each performance runs
close to two hours.
Longtime members of St.
Peter's, the Robinsons said they
jumped at the chance to put on
a show for the community that
would act as an educational
tool for the anniversary as well
as appease community requests
for more walkabout theatre.
The St. Peter's Walkabout has
been in the works since
February, and now features a
cast of more than 60 players,
three musical acts, and a couple
horses. Tickets run between
$10 and $5, and are available
from local businesses including
Ernie King Music, All Around
The House, Bluewater Cleaners,
Dennome Flowers, and Wuerth's
Shoes, as well as the St. Peter's
Church office.
It plays June 26 at 7 p.m.,
June 27 at 10 a.m. and June 28
at 2 p.m.
"We put a lot of work into
this," Eleanor added. "It's been
a really great experienceand
we hope that everyone enjoys
