Thieves target boats
Boat owners are counting their
losses after a series of break-ins at
a Goderich marina.
Police said 20 boats moored
at the Maitland Marina were
entered late last month and a
host of items were stolen, rang-
ing from televisions and tools to
clothing, alcohol and electronic
devices. Three boats had locked
hatches which were damaged as
the thieves forced their way in.
The items stolen are valued at
$35,(X)0. Anyone with informa-
tion is asked to call Huron County
OPP at 1-800-310-1122 or Crime
Stoppers at 1 -800 -222 -TIPS.
HOMEOWNER GIVES
- CHASE
A South Huron homeowner
was suddenly awakened in the
early morning hours to the sound
two males in his backyard at-
tempting to steal a bar fridge.
At approximately 5 a.m. on
June 6, the omplainant report-
edly scared off two thieves as --
they attempted to make off with
his property, and promptly gave
chase in his vehicle to provide
information to police officers.
After a foot chase, one of the sus-
pects was caught by Huron OPP.
The second remains outstanding
but has been identified.
One 16 -year-old South Huron
male has been charged with one
count of Break and Enter. He. will
appear in Goderich Youth Court
on August 20. The investiga-
tion remains ongoing and further
charges may be pending.
TRACTOR OPERATOR ES-
CAPES INJURY WITH QUICK
THINKING
A Dashwood farmer has a lot to
be thankful for after escaping the
wrath of a downed hydro line.
On June 6, at approximately
11:30 a.m., police were called to
assist the Dashwood Fire Depart-
ment with a tractor fire. A driver
had been operating a sprayer in
a field north of Dashwood Road
when one of the automatic sen-
sors faulted causing the right
side of the sprayer unit to strike
the hydro line which then came
down onto the sprayer unit and
grounded out. Both of the sprayer
tires then caught on fire. The
driver remained inside the cab of
the tractor until the Fire Depart-
ment and Hydro One arrived. As
a result, he suffered no injuries.
The result could have been drasti-
cally different if the driver had at-
tempted to exit the tractor. Traffic
was rerouted for a period of time
as a precaution.
