Leading the fundraising charge was eight- year-old Sydney Pollock, who brought in an incredible $1,600 in donations to the walk. The reason Pollock felt so strongly about fundraising is her two friends, Michaela, 5, and Elizabeth, 9, Alcock, both diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. The girls' mother, Christy Alcock, said Pol- lock's contribution left her short for words. "I was so proud of her," she said. "She's just a beautiful young lady." For her birthday party two weeks ago, Pol- lock asked that guests bring no presents but make a donation to the CCFF "The whole class came and donated," she said. "Except for the boys." The young fundraiser also sent e-mails to family and friends for support, and the aware- ness generated by that is just as important as the funds, said Alcock. This is the fourth year the Alcock family and the Kinsmen Club have been hosting the event - previously run by Zellers. "In the few years we've done this, we've raised over $20,000," Christy said. This year's walk raised $4,000 for CCFF. Dental Hygienist Trina O'Rourke says the Children in Need of iiental Treat- ment Program has been expanded to include techagers 14-17 years of age.- "We're very pleased to work with the, high schools to of- fer this service to Huron County teens." A visual exam is done and if one area of visual decay is seen, the teen qualifies.
