great -grandpa, Ron, who passed away May 26,
2006.
You did so many things for us,
Your heart was kind and true,
And when we needed someone,
We could always count on vou.
Our hearts are full of memories,
We treasure them with care,
The way you had to leave us,
Will always seem unfair.
Sad are the hearts that love you,
Silent the tears that fall,
Living our lives without you,
Is the hardest part of all.
Loved and missed by Judy, Bev, Doug, Joan

Holiday Weekends Thursday 10 a.m.
The Circle City Cruizers of Goderich,
Ontario recently opened the 2009 season
with their annual Show and Shine at the
Zehrs Plaza. A heavy rain the night before
left the grassy show area very wet. With
the co-operation of the Plaza merchants,
the show was moved to the paved parking
lot. In spite of a cloudy, cool and windy
but dry day, 41 cars arrived by noon for
the event.
Even with a weather related set back the
Circle City Cruizers always come through
with a well organized show and this year
Walkerburn club reaches 90 years

The year 1919 in Ontario was a far
different landscape than the one we
know today.
Canadian troops shipped off to
the Battle of Shenkursk, part of the Rus-
sian Civil War. Women in New Bruns-
wick and the Yukon were permitted to
vote for the first time, while Alberta
battled its worse swing of the influenza
pandemic, a global disaster. Tucked
away in a little hamlet south of Au-
burn, 15 women came together to rally
charitable support for their community.
Now, 90 years later, the Walkerburn
Club is celebrating its uninterrupted
run as the charitable force of Auburn -
area women.
On June 14, Auburn Hall will host
the 90th anniversary celebration of the
Walkerburn Ladies' Club, now made up
of eight community -members.
"Our objective has always been char-
ity," .said member of more than 46
years, Vera Penfound, and their track
record backs up the claim.
The Walkerburn ladies' of 1919 be-
gan their work primarily with the Red
Cross of Canada. During the war years,
their efforts astounded Penfound, as
they created and shipped off as many
quilts as they could muster.
"It was an amazing amount of quilts
those ladies made,' said Penfound, "1
know one year, there was 47 sent off to
the Red Cross."
But it's not just quilts, Penfound add-
ed, though for the last 10 years the club
has been known for their intricate quilt
creations that have been the benefit of
organizations including the Canadian
Breast Cancer Foundation and the Al-
zheimer's Society of Huron County.
"It's amazing how we've come up
with our donation money, with just
eight (members] still going now," she
said. "We do whatever we can."
The ladies save Zehr's receipts, they
host bake and plant sales and donate
proceeds locally.
Members meet once a month for nine
months a year. They include Betty
Archambault, Christena Gross, Eileen
McClinchy, Ila Cunningham, Deanna
Snell, Bernice Norman and Dorothy
Schneider.
Four of these ladies are the third
generation club members, following
after founding descendants. Christena
Gross, Eileen McClincherand Ila Cun-
ningham are descendants of Mrs. Wal-
ter Cunningham and. Bernice Norman
is a descendant of Mrs. Rundle Hunk-
ing.
Club members are now busy plan-
ning the 90th anniversary celebration
set to take place in the Auburn Com-
munity Hall at 1 p.m. They're asking
people to bring food for pot luck.
"We hope to see former members,
family members
of former mem-
bers and our
neighbours there.
We hope everyone
enjoys a visit with
their old friends
and neighbours,"
said Penfound.
"We are sending
invitations out, hut
if we have missed
anyone, please ac-
cept this as your
invitation."

was no exception. During the day many
shoppers had the opportunity to look at all
the fine vehicles on display while they did
their Saturday shopping at the Plaza.
